UNITED STATES PATENT Orrrcn BARZILLA HARRINGTON, OF CHINA, MAINE, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF, LEVI H. STRAW, AND JESSE A. LOGKE, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN MATERIALS FOR FILLING MATTRESSES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 1 23,016, dated January 23, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
I, BARZILLA HARRINGTON, of China, in the county of Kennebec and State of Maine, have invented a new and useful Material for Filling Mattresses, of which the following is a specification:
The Nature of the Invention.
loosens thebark from the pith. It is then passed through a picker 5 a machine similar to those that are used by woolen manufacturers will do. This picker reduces the bark to shreds, softening it up and rendering it very flexible.
This material is light, tough, and flexible, and eminently suitable for filling mattresses, 860.
By my invention or discovery I bring into use a vast amount of material which has heretofore been neglected or useless, or even destroyed. p
I claim as my invention As a new article of trade, the filated bark of Indian corn (zea mag s) prepared for the purpose of fillin g mattresses, 850., substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
