Be it known that l, JOHN W. PORTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of St. Louis, State of Missouri, have iuveuti-id a new and useful Burner, of which the following is a specification.
rllhis invent-ion relates to improvements in burners, and specically to the improved gas burner structure disclosed in my co,- ilci'uling application Serial. No. 96,196, iiled lllay S. lille, and of which this application is a division.
An object of the invention is to provide a simple and effective gas burner including means for distributing the gas and mixing it with air effectively to distribute the flame aud to oxidize the gas to promote the combustible quality thereof. y
Another object of theinvention is to provide a burner including an annular fuel supply or distributing passage, and a jet passage, with a plurality of air mixing devices disposed therebetween.
In addition to the foregoing objects ad ditional advantages attainable from the structure including the invention will appear from the following disclosure taken in connection with the accompanying drawin in which-- Figure l is a plan view of a combination oil and gas burner embodying the invention. is the oil burner section of the device illustrated in the drawing constitutes the subject-matter of my application above referred to, it is unnecessary to describe such part of the structure in detail. Suliice it to say that the oil burner is arranged within the gas burner, both burners being supported by a common base casting 1, and being designed to be used together or separately at the option of the user.
The gas burner structure includes an annular conduit 2, supported by brackets 3 extending from the base casting l, and disposed horizontally and projecting radially therefrom. The base casting l is in the form of a pan and the brackets 3 support the annular conduit 2 at a distance therefrom at a slight elevation from the bottom of the base casting. A gas supply pipe l is formed integral. with the annular conduit 2 entering the side wall thereof.
rllhc annular conduit 2 at spaced intervals has extensions 5 which open into the top wall of the annular conduit 2. From the side wall of each of the extensions 5 is an angular nipple 6 which is threaded into the side wall of the said extensions 3 and projects upwardly fitting into an air mixing device.
The air mixing device comprises a hemi ispherical hollow casting 7 having a flat wall at the bottom, the upper end of the nipple 6 threading into a centra-l orifice in the bottom thereof. Surrounding the entrance of the nipple 6 and through the bottom plate of the casting 7 is a series of openings 8 for the admission of air to the interior of the casting v7. Extending upwardly from each of the air mixing' devices is a straight nipple v9 threaded into the apex of the casting 7 and extending upwardly a slight distance. The jet conduit l0 has a series of openings in the bottom wall thereof registering with the openings of the nipples 9, and into which the nipples 9 are threaded. The jet conduit l0, as shown, is annular in form and of a diameter slightly in excess of the annular conduit 2. The nipples 6, the Acasting 7 and the nipples 9 extending around the conduits 2 and 10 constitute a frame work, whereby the conduit l0 is supported.
In the upper wall of the conduit 10 is formed a continuous annular series of openings ll which constitute discharge openings or jet openings from the conduit 10. The gas entering through the gas supply pipe Llto the annular conduit 2 is distributed therethrough and is discharged at intervals from the conduit 2 into the nipples 6, thence into the mixing devices 7 through the nipples 9 to the jet conduit 10 lfrom whichl it is discharged through the openings 11 in an even and distributed flow. As there is a plurality of the mixing devices equally disposed around the conduits 2 and 10, the air and gas mixture is uniformly maintained, the air passing through the openings 8 in the mixing devices, wherein it is thoroughly mixed with the incoming gas.
I am aware that modifications within equivalentilimits may be made in the structure, and I do notlimit myself therefore to the exactl construction shown and described, but what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is :fl
l. A gas burner, comprising a base casting, a supply passage disposed about said base casting, supports between the base casting and said supply passage, a jet passage arranged above said supply passage, and connections between said supply passage and said jet passage including mixing devices.

A burner comprising' a base, af, series of radial brackets integrally formed with said base, a gas supply passage'encompassing said base and supported by saidbrackets, a rgas inletpipe to said supply passage, a jet pas sage having a series of perforations extending radiallyL therethrough, a plurality of hollow hemispherical castings having open'- ings in the bottom wall thereof disposed between said two passages, and passages from the first-named supply passageV to said castingsy and from said castings to saidjet'passage, substantially as specified.
A gas burner comprising ay base casting, an annular continuous tubular conduit supported by said base casting, a gas supply pipe entering said conduit, hollowA extenysions in the upper wall of said conduit disposed at equally spacedvinterjvals, angular nipples connectedinto the side walls of said extensions, hollow mixing devices supported by said nipples, an annular tubular passage above said mixing devices *lhaving'discharge openings therein, andl nipples connecting said last-named passage and said mixing devices, substantially as specified.
4. A gas burner, comprising a base casting, a supply conduit, connections'between the supply conduit and the base casting, a jet vconduit arranged above said supply'conduit, said conduit having j et discharge openings therethrough, mixing devices between the supply conduit and said jet conduit having air openingsin the bottom wall thereof, and connections between the mixing devices and said supply conduit and between said mixing devices and said j et conduit.
5. A burner, comprising a supply conduit, a gas supply passage entering therein, extensions disposed at equal intervals from the upper wall of said Vconduit constituting hollow separate chambers, angularV nipples connected into the side walls of said extensions, mixing devices supported by said nipples, a jet conduitv and lconnections between said jet conduit and said-mixing de\v'ices,'sub stantially as specified.
6. A burner including a. base casting, a continuous conduit, brackets around said base supporting said conduit,a gas supply Y of, an annular conduit supported at the outery ends of said brackets, a second annular con duit, a series of equally spaced mixing de vices, pipe connections between said mixing devices and said first-named conduit, and pipe connectionsv between said second-named conduit and said mixing devices, said pipe connections and mixing devices constituting a supporting frame for said second-named pipe passage. y
