APPLICATION FILED JULY 19. I936- Patented June 12, 1917.

Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June is, raw.
Application filed July 19, 1916. Serial No. 110,107.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Gnonon WoRDINo- HAM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment-Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
, This invention relates to garment hangers and has as one of its objects to provide a hanger which may bemanufactured at an exceptionally low cost and with the utilization of a minimum amount of material and which may therefore be employed as an advertising medium for 'clothiers and other merchants. h
A-nother aim of the invention is to provide a garment hanger in which the shoulder member is formed from a strip of thin wood or other suitable fibrous material bent to. the required shape, thereby enabling the hanger being manufactured, as stated above, at a low cost and at the same time rendering the hanger light in weight.
The invention further aims to provide the hanger with a. novel form of trousers bar and to mount this bar within the shoulder member in a novel manner providing for ready assemblage of the parts and yet a strong and durable connection between them. Incidentally the invention aims to provide a garment hanger with a .trousers bar which will be of such form as to present to view, in the ordinary use of the hanger, an advertising space of maximum area.
In the accompanying drawings,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the hanger embodying the present invention; I
Fig. 2 is a detail vertical longitudinal sectional view through one end of the hanger, the trousers bar being shown in ele-' vatlon;
Fig. 3 is a perspective view in detail of one end of the trousersbar;
Fig. 4: is a detail vertical sectional view through the intermediate portion of theshoulder member illustrating the manner of connecting thereto the suspension hook of the hanger.
In the drawings, the shoulder member is indicated in general by the numeral 1 and this member is formed from a strip of thin wood or other fibrous material suitable for the purpose bent to the required shape, the
member including the usual supporting arms 2 which extend downwardly in opposite diwhich the shoulder porbe hung are to be draped.
recticns and over tions of the coat to The strip from which the shoulder member is formed is, as stated, relatively thin and is flat sided, and bent to the required shape, its flat faces or sides being presented respectively upwardly and downwardly. In order to provide sers bar, the terminal portions of the arms2 for support of the tron-- of the shoulder member are bent to extend vertically downwardly, numeral 3, and each of portions is formed with is preferably circular.
The trousers bar is indicated in general by as indicated by the these said terminal an opening l which the numeral 5 and is in the nature of a strip with the said shoulder member will lie flush with the outer surfaces of the said terminal portions, as clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings. By reference to the said figures and also Fig. 3 in which one end of the shoulder member is illustrated in dotted lines, it will be observed that the trousers bar 5 is disposed .to lie in a vertical plane. Inasmuch as the upper edge of the trousers bar is transversely rounded, the trousers may be more readily adjusted thereon and will not be liable to have sharp creases formed therein. In. order to secure the tenons'7 against withdrawal from the openings 4:, brads 8 are driven through the lower edges of the terminal portions 3 into the said terminal portions and said tenons, as-shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings. At this point it will be understood that the faces or sides of the trousers'bar 5 present surfaces of maximum area which may have directly printed up desired advertisement or a str1p of paper or other material bearing an advertisement may be applied to either or both of said faces.
The suspension hook for the hanger has its bill portion indicated by the numeral 9 vertically through the on them any and its shank by the numeral 10 and this hook is formed from a suitable length of wire which is provided at the end of the shank l with a head 11 which, when the said shank isfitted through an opening 12 formed in the intermediate portion of the shoulder member, will rest against the underside of the said member at the said portion thereof. In order to prevent downward movementof the shank through the opening 12, the shank immediately abovelthe upper surface of the said member 1 is laterally compressed to form a head 13 of a width greater than the diameter of the opening 12.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. In a garment hanger, a shoulder member having terminal portions extending in a downward direction, a suspension means con nected with the saidmember, a trousers bar extending between the said termihal portions, the said terminal portions being provided each with an opening passing solely from face to face of said portion and the trousers bar being provided at its ends with tenons fitting the said openings, the said trousers bar being fiat sided and disposed vertically, and securing elements driven into the said terminal portions of the shoulder I member through the lower edges thereof and for the shoulder member, a trousers bar ex tending between the said terminal POIUOIIS of the shoulder member, the said bar being reduced at each end to form a tenon, and a vertically disposed shoulder at the inner end of the tenon, the said tenons being fitted in the openings in the terminal portions of the shoulder member and the said shoulders of the trousers bar contacting the inner faces of the said terminal portions of the shoulder member, and securing elements driven upwardly through the lower ends of the terminal portions across the openings therein and through the said tenons, the trousers bar being fiat sided and substantially vertically disposed.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
