IMPROVEMENT IN CUF'F AND COLLAR BUTTONS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 122,899, dated January 23, 1872.

SPECIFICATION.

I, HALsTED W. LITTLE, of Muncie, in the county of Delaware, State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful CuffV and Collar Button, of which the following is a specication:

The nature of this invention consists in the construction of a cui or collar button in such a manner that by pressing upon the face of the button the shank will be forced inwardly in a sleeve around said shank; then by giving the button a half-turn the shank Will turn in said sleeve and carry one arm of the inside bar around with it, by which means the button may be readily Withdrawn from the buttonhole of the cuii or collar.

In the drawing, Figure l is a perspective View. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of my improved button.

A represents a button, which may be made in any suitable form and material, and has a shank, b, secured to it, to the outer end of which is attached an arm, c, at right angle fromy sleeve, d, sufficiently large to allow a spiral spring, c, to be placed on the shank, for the purpose of keeping the sleeve extended on the shank. On the outer end of the sleeve is an arm, f, corresponding to the arm c on the shank b. The sleeve d has a slot along its side, so

that it maybe slipped onto the shank, and there is a band, g, around the sleeve, a little distance from the end, which forms a notch for the arm c to rest in, and which prevents the sleeve turning. 1

To insert the button in the button-hole of a cuff or collar, the sleeve d is pressed down on the shank b, releasing it from the arm c, when it may be turned around haliway, the open space under the arm f allowing it to turn; then the arm f lies directly over the arm c. The button may then be easily removed.

By this mode of construction the button-hole may be small like an eyelet-hole, and the button is not likely to get out, and yet is more readily inserted or Withdrawn.

I claim as my inventionl. The sleeve d, inclosing the spring e,coi1ed around the shank b, said sleeve being made with an arm,f, a vertical slot, a horizontal slot, and provided with a band, g, Which forms, with the vertical slot, a notch, all as and for the purpose set forth.

2. The combination, with the shank b, of the button A, the arm c, sleeve d With its arm f, band g, and the spring e, as shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
