IMPROVEMENT IN FASTENINGS FOR SATCHELS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 122,840, dated January 16, 1872; antedated December 23, 1871.
SPECIFICATION.
I, PHILIP P. LYNCH, of the city of Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New J ersey, have invented an Improvement in the Construction of Fastenings for Satchels or Traveling-Bags, technically termed the Olive, and
sometimes a Catch, of which the following is a specification My improvement consists in constructing the olive or catch of two or more blanks, one having on it pins at its edge, formed as an integral part thereof, by which the olive is attached to the satchel in such a manner as to hide them and their holes from sight by the projecting edge of the outer blank.
In the accompanying drawing, Ais a full-size flat blank of thin metal, so shaped that when pins or points are left projecting from the edge, those pins or points on being set at right angles with the blank form the common means of dispensing with rivets in attaching blanks to leather. B is a perspective view of the same with its points turned up. 0 is the faceblank prepared to receive the insertion and connection of B.
