IMPROVEMENT IN GATES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 122,764, dated January 16, 1872.
Specliication describing a new and Improved Gate, invented by ALLEN GASKILL, of Neoga, v
y y lFigure l is' aside elevation of my improved gate with some parts sectioned. Fig. 2 is a transverse section of Fig. 1 on the line x x.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The horizontal bars A are all pivoted to the vertical bars B, so that the swinging end may be raised or lowered, and the braces C are pivoted to the gate at the upper ends, while the lower ends are jointed to the ends of levers D pivoted to the second horizontal bar from the bottom at E. These levers D extend from the pivot E to the top of the gate at the front end, where they are secured by a bridle or yoke, F, when the gate is closed and latched. By swinging the levers D backward to the position indicated by dotted lines Gr the swinging end ofthe gate will be lifted up to the position indicated by the dotted lines H I., raising the latches K out of the notches in the post L, so that the gate may be opened. The said levers will hold the gate in this position until moved back again by hand, so that the latches will be in position to enter the catches again when the gate closes. after which it will be locked by turningthe levers D up to the vertical bars B and securing them by the yoke F.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentl. The levers D D pivoted, as described, to end-curved and diagonal braces C C of a gate, so that no fastei'ling will be required after the ends of braces have been carried past the line of draft.
2. The combination of a lock-yoke, F, with the front upright of a gate and levers D D, as and for the purpose described.
ALLEN GASKILL.
