To all whom it may concem:
Be it known that I, RICHARD J. MORGAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Peoria, in the County of Peoria and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Signs, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in illuminated signs and more particularly to an improved structure consisting of' several parts, coperatively arranged whereby it may be 'utilized for receiving and displaying signs of various constructions and materials, such'` for in stance as panes of opalescent or leaded art glass, wherein the pane will be supported in an efiicient manner so that the light will be evenly distributed over'the entire surfaces thereof, to the end that a more attractive, yet inexpensive sign apparatus will be provided.
Various other objects and advantages of my invention will become apparent during the continuance of the following description.
The above and other objects are accomplished by such means as are shown in their i preferred form in the accompanying drawings, describedin the following specification and then more specifically pointed out in the appended claims.

nal edges being in turn bent to form upstanding fianges 11. Longitudinally extending angle bars 12 and 13 are arranged on the bottom portion 10 as clearly illustrated in Fig. 4, and are normally held in position thereon by the co-action of the portions 14 and 15 thereof With the flanges 11, The top portion of the sign box is preferably complemental to the bottom 10, the overturned fianges 16 thereof serving to retain the angle bars 17. Other angle bars 18 and 19 have connection with the respective eXtremities of the upper and lower angle bars, at each corner of the bottom and top portion, in order to form or rather complete the box structure, by retaining the respective top and bottom portions in spaced apart relation. i
Any desirable means may be employed for purpose of fastening the adjacent ends of the various contiguous angle bars; however in view of the varying conditions, I do not limit myself to any specific form.
With the View of supporting certain illumi- ,nating means in proximity to the sign plates (presently described) a preferably metallic collar structure 20 is employed, which car 'ies an outstanding fiange 21 that has conneotion with the adjacent portion of the angle bars 19 through the medium of the fastening members 22. In constructng the globe holder structure that is mounted within the collar 20, an elongated section of material 23 is provided at a medial point with a series of Slots 24 and has its respective end portions upturned to form fianges 26. Suitable fastening means 27 are employed for retaining the flanges of the globe holder in different adjusted positions relative to the longitudinal axis of the collar 20, and thus allowing the globe 28 to be adjusted so as to insure the even lighting of the sign. In other words, the angle of inclination of the sign plates and the clifl-'erent natures of the signs, often require an accurate adjustment of the illuminating means before the best results and the even illumination of the plates can be attained. The particular adjusting means which I have shown provide and compensate for the different types of sign plates and are believed to be essential to the thorough eiciency of the device.
I have also found it advantageous to provide a suitable refiector member 29 that carries an annular fiange 30 for facilitating connection with the collar 20. It will be understood that the back portion of the refiec tor member is bent at a suitable angle in order to refiect the rays of light directly through the collar 20 into the sign box structure.
As mentioned hereinbefore, the sign box structure which has been provided is capable of receiving various sign plates; however, for sake of illustration I have illustrated in the drawings a pair of sign plates which are constructed of opalescent glass, these sign plates 31 and 32 being arranged in the sign box in the nanner clearly illustrated in Fig. 2 and Secured in place by any suitable means.
Further, I have found it advisable to provide suitable means for supporting the sign box structure, and to this end, the support 33 has projecting therefrom, a rigid rod member 34 the latter carrying a suitable ornament 35 at its extremity. A chain or other similar member 36 has connection with the support 33 as at 37 and the rod 24 as at 38, in order to efficiently support the latter after its connection with the sign box. A suitable bracket is provided for connection with the respective front and rear portions of the sign box structure which are constructed substantially as follows:
The front bracket consists of an elongated plate 39 which is provided with an upstanding extension 40, the latter being bent to form a curled portion 41 for connection with the rod 23 as shown, the fastening member 42 coperating with said curled portion for holding the bracket in a secure position. Suitable fastening means 43 are provided for the purpose of securing the plate -39 to the adjacent portion of the angle bars 18501" the sign box. e
The rear bracket consists of a skeleton france 44 which is provided with an exten- -sion 45 that is complemental to the extension 40 of the front bracket, and which is similarly 'curled as at 46 for engagement with the rod 34. Means, as shown at 47 are also employed to coperate with the curled portion 46 in order to secure the curled portion and the respective bracket in place. The frame 44'is received about the collar 20 in the inanner clearly shown in Figs. l and 2, the fastening means 22 before mentioned, serving to secure the same' in a rigid position in engagement with the fiange' 21. v
From` the foregoing it will be appreciated that my invention consists of several parts that are coperatively arranged, in order that the sign box may receive sign plates of various Construction, and it will also be appreciated that the sign box is very simple in construction,consequently it may be manufactured at a comparatively low cost.
In reducing my invention to practice, I find that the form referred to herein as the preferred embocliment is the most efficient; yet realizing that' certain conditions will necessarily vary in concurrence with' the adoption of my invention, I desire to emphasize the fact that various minor changes in the details of Construction and proportion of parts may be resorted to when required Without departing from or sacrificing any of-the advantages of my invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a device of thecharacter described,
a sign box including a top anda'bottom member, said top and bottom members tapermg toward their forward extremties,bar members carred by each of said top and bottom membersyother bar members having' connection with saidfirst mentioned bar members to space said top and bottom members in parallelism, a collar structure including an annular flange, said flange being secured to certain of said second-mentioned bar members, an adjustable light supporting structure arranged in said collar'structure, a detachable refiector member carried by said, collar structure and a bracket secured to certain of said second mentioned bar members and said flange for supporting the entire structure substantially as described.
2. In a device of the character described, a sign box structure including a top and a bottom member, said top and bottom members tapering toward their forward ends, the longitudinal edges of said top and bottom members being bent to form fianges, bar
