To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, LORETA ASTARITA CIRILLO, a citizen of theUnited States, and

a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Corset, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

Among the principal objects which the present invention has in view are: to support the weight of the abdomen of the wearer of a corset of the character mentioned from a regionof the back above the waistline; to maintain the lower edge of the abdomen-supporting member below the abdomen when in service; to shape the abdomen-supporting member; to reduce the adipose tissue of the abdomen; to restrain the flesh above the top of the corset; and to provide removable devices for so restraining the flesh above the top of the corset adapting the corset for formal or ordinary Drawings.

As shown in the drawings, a corset 11 has a rear apron portion 12 and a front'apron portion 13. At the front of the corset these portions are separated to form recesses 14. The recesses 14 are provided to permit the ends of the lacing straps 15 to engage the buckle tabs 16-and the buckles 17 thereof. The tabs 16 are permanently secured to the non-elastic casings 18 wherein heavy corset steels are disposed. The steels referred to are provided with the usual corset fastenings 19. The steels referred to are shaped and the lower ends thereof are provided with a decided inward turn, which in service insures the disposition of the supporter below the major portion of the abdomen.

The casings 18 are permanently secured to elastic sections 20. The elastic sections 20 spread over the outer wall of the abdomen for the purpose of maintaining a-constant pressure thereon, this pressure being relied upon to retard or remove accumulation of adipose tissue of the abdomen. The sections 20 are each permanently attached to one of the corset half sections by means of non-elastic sewing strips 21 and at about the median vertical line thereof.

When fitting the corset to the wearer, the sections 20 are curtailed torequire stretching as the corset is adjusted to the person. In this manner a pressure is constantly maintained on the walls of the abdomen independently of the pressure of the corset proper.

When the fronts of the corset half sections are drawn together and hooked, the wearer adjusts the ends of the lacing straps 15 in the buckles 17 on the tabs 16. The lacing straps are then tightened to suit the wearer, the buckles 17 being used to hold the straps 15 and tabs 16 in the proper relation.

It will be noticed that the strain on the straps 15 is imparted to the string clusters 22 at the back of the corset, as shown best in Fig. 2 of the drawings, which draws the upper edges of the back of the corset together. In service, the weight of the abdomen is therefore borne by means of the steels in the casings 18 and the sections 20 of the supporter, the said supporter being held in position by the straps 15 and string clusters 22. In practice, this results in transferrin the weight of the abdomen to the area 0% the back of the person where the string clusters 22 are located. Also it will be noted that the pulling strain thus exerted by the straps 15 is substantially in line with the groin, and therefore operates to draw the tabs 16 and parts associated therewith under the overhang of the abdomen. This overcomes the tendency found in belts of this character to ride or become dislodged upwardly.

After the straps 15 and string clusters 22 connected therewith have been comfortably adjusted, the lacing straps 23 are drawn taut to pull the string clusters 24, for lacing the lower portion of the corset or that part thereof below the waistline of the person wearing the corset.

As shown best in Fig. 1 of the drawings, one of the straps 23 is provided with a series of fastening members 24*, any of which may beengaged by a fastener member 25 on the companion strap 23, thereby permitting an adjustment of the lacing which secures this portion of the corset. The joined ends of the straps 23 are held in service by a detent hook 26, which events the dislodgment of the straps 23 aff r the same have been adjusted.

- When the wearer. of the corset is stout, it is obvious that certain dislodgments of flesh occur, and in some cases this results in an unpleasant accumulation thereof above the top of the corset, which if unrestrained would protrude above the edge of the corset. To prevent this, the corset is furnished with two brassiere sections 29, such as shown in Fig. 6 of the drawings, and two back brassiere sections 30, such as shown in Fig. 5 of the drawings. These sections are made of suitable fabric and each is provided with a series of garment snap fasteners 27. Corresponding fasteners 28 are provided at the upper edge of the corset, and on the inner side thereof as shown best in Fig. 3 of the drawings. As seen best in Fig. 2 of the drawings, the front sections 29 and the back sections 30 are not mutually connected in service, said sections being arranged on the corset so that they approximate but do not *join below the arm pit of the wearer.

As seen best in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings, the front sections 29 and the back sections 30 are united in service by lacings 31.

To support the upper edge of the front sections 29, each of the back sections 30 has a shoulder extension 32. The extensions 32 pass forwardly over the shoulders and are each provided with a ribbon end 33, which is secured to a corresponding ribbon end 34 with which each of the sections 29 is furnished.

It is obvious that for ordinary use, a person wearing a corset'equipped with brassiere sections such as described, may, if the costume is of a more formal character or dcollet, dispose of the brassiere sections 29 and 30, by removing the same from the corset thereby increasing the range of usefulness of the corset so equipped.

2. A corset having in combination, a plurality of corset sections; lacing members therefor, said members embodying straps and string clusters, each operatively connected with one of said corset sections; an abdominal supporter permanently connected with said corset sections adjacentthe median side-line of each section and means for operatively connecting said straps with said abdominal supporter adjacent the lower edge and'the front median section thereof, said means embodying strapends permanently mounted on said supporter, said ends being adapted for temporary attachment to said lacing straps.

A corset comprising a plurality of side body sections; a plurality of contractible abdominal-supporting sections, each of said abdominal-supporting sections being permanently secured to one'of said body sections adjacent the median line ofeach thereof; fasteners for securing the front edges of said body sections and said abdominal-supporting sections; lacing members for said body sections, said members embodying a plurality of straps, each strap being operatively .connected with one of said body'sections at the rear edge thereof and adjacent the upper edge thereof; and means permanently provided one on each of said abdominal-supporting sections for holding in service one of said straps.

4. A' corset comprising a plurality of corset body sections; an abdominal supporter embodying a plurality of elastic sections each permanently attached to one of said body sections at the median line thereof; and lacing members for adjusting said body sections in service, said lacing members be ing attached in service to said supporter sections at the lower meeting edges thereof for elevating the flesh of the abdomen.

A corset comprising a plurality of corset body sections; an abdominal supporter embodying a plurality of elastic sections each permanently attached to oneof said body sections at the median line thereof; lacing members for adjusting said body sections in service, said lacing members-being attached in service to said supporter sections at the lower meeting edges thereof and to the upper regions of said body sections,

for elevating the flesh of -.the abdomen; brassiere sections for confining the flesh when so elevated; and means for detachably securing said brassiere sections to said corset, said means embodying a plurality of fasteners permanently mounted on said body sections adjacent the upper edge thereof said brassire sections comprising unconnected separately constructed front and back sections.
