To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I. GABRIELLE M. Polx, a citizen of the United States, and a. resident of the borough of Brooklyn, county of Kings, city and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Brassieres, of which the following the same laid out flat, with front side upper-- most.

Fig. 2 is a view similar to Fig. 1, showing the back side uppermost.

Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the brassiere shown in Figs. 1 and 2 as worn.

Referring to the drawings, 1 designates, in the present instance, the front portion of said brassiere'the lower part of which is rovided with a plurality of parallel and liorizontal elastic bands 2 suitably spaced apart and secured at their ends to the upwardly diverging side pocket seams 3. In the present instance, 4 and 5 designate the back portions of said brassiere, the lower parts of which are each provided with a plurality of parallel downwardly extending elastic bands 6 suitably spaced apart and se cured at their inner ends to the pocket scams 3 directly opposite the ends of the elastic bands 2. The outer ends of the clastie bands 6 are secured respectively, to the upwardly diverging end members 7 and 8 provided in the present instance with hooks and eyes 9 and 10 for fastening the ends of the brassiere together preferably in the back of thefwearer.

When the brassiere is in position on the wearer the elastic bands 6 of the back portions 4.- and 5 will assume a horizontal position which together with the elastic bands 2 form parallel horizontal elastic bands around the body. of the wearer above the waist line and below the bust of the wearer to sup ort the diaphragm.

edges of the elastic bands 2 and 6 so as not to interfere with the stretching of the elastic bands and to provide suitable ventilation for the comfort of the wearer. The strips of material 11 and 12 when tucked and sewed into position give a finished appearance to the brassiere which greatly improves its appearance.-

The upper part of the front portion 1 of the brassiere is in the present instance provided with triangular shaped front gores 13 and 14. the lower sides of which are tucked or shirred and then sewed to the upper edge of the uppermost elastic band 2. The adjacent ends of the gores 13 and 14 preferably overlap in the present instance,

over a portion of the front of the brassiere.

The upper part of the back portions 4 and 5 of the brassiere are in the present instance provided with suitable back gores 15 and 16, the lower sides of which are tucked or shirred and then sewed to the upper edge of the uppermost elastic band 6.

The adjacent edges of the front gores 13 and 14, and theback gores 15 and 16, are suitably sewed together along the pocket scams 3 and also to the'end members 7 and 8,

the upper portions of the frontand back gores being suitably out and sewed to form arm holes.

The pocket seams 3 and the end members 7 and 8 are preferably provided with stri s of whalebone 17 and 18, which can easily lie removed when desired.

A brassieremade as above described acts when in use to improve the appearance of the wearer, the lower part with the horizon;

tal elastic bands acting to' hold the diaphragm in position, whereas the upper part acts to hold the bust in position. The brassiere is very simple in construction and ornamental in design. The provision of the porous strips of material between the elastic I bands permits of the same being worn tight over the diaphragm to reduce the flesh at this point, the porous material makin the same more hygienic as ventilation is acilitated between the elastic bands.

Due to the fact that a plurality of rows of elastic bands are used that are of graduated lengths, the lower bands being less in pip,

cumference than the adjacent bands, and so on upward, a uniform tension is applied to theupper and lower parts of the diaphragm of the wearer, which is very desirable for the comfort of the wearer.

While the invention has been described with particular reference to the details of construction, the same is not to be considered as limited thereto, as many changes can be made and still fall within the scope of the What I claim is 1. 2. A brassiere comprising in combination front and back portions, the upper part of said front and back portions comprising a plurality of gores, sewed together to form a support for the bust, the lower part of said front and back portions comprising a plurality of rows of elastic material, the upper row of elastic material being greater in (-ircumference than the succeeding lower rows, each row being less in circumference than the row above it, said elastic material arranged to support the diaphragm.
