Be it known that I, Urn-runes J. KENNEDY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Duluth, in the county of St Louis and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Instruments, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention consists of certain improvements in instrui'nents and relates especially to a cleansing instrument for cleaning and drying safety razor blades.
The object is to produce a simple and sanitary device of this nature, cheap in construction and convenient in operation.
Referring to the drawings in which like reference characters indicate like parts:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved instrument, and
Fig. 2 represents a modified form of same.
Referring to Fig. 1, 1 represents the body of the instrument having the flat portion 2 widened transversely and at the opposite end formed into the cylindrical handle socket, 3.
The flat portion 2 is in general outline rectangular in form and has securely fastened thereto upon one side, either by rlvets indicated at 4 or suitable adhesive substance, a preferably rectangular shaped piece 5 of non-absorbent substance, such as rubber or the like and upon the opposite side is suitably fastened a similarly shaped piece 6 of absorbent material, such as felt or the like.
Adjacent the rear corners of the pads 5 and 6 and formed integral with the flattened 1 portion 2 of the body of the instrument, are 40.
illustrated lugs, 7 and 8 projecting-at right angles to the faces of the portion 2, two
upon one side and two upon the other.
These lugs are sufficiently long to extend beyond the surfaces of the pads when in place, and are for the purpose of supporting the padded end of the instrument when at rest upon the dresser or table.
The object of providing such support is to keep the pads from contacting any foreign object such as the dresser or table top whereby they might become fouled, or when, after being used they might soil the object upon which'the instrument is placed.
While I have shown the lugs 7 and 8 as being formed integral with the flattened (Sonics of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner or absorbent portion 2 of the instrument, it is evident lieu thereof-and said pins being made to fit snugly within holes formed through the flattened portion 2 and allowed to project above the face of the pads, or other similar arrangement may be resorted to.
The non-porous or non-absorbent pad 5 is for the express purpose of removing by forcible frictional contact as nearly as possible all foreign substances from the razor blade when wiped therewith and the porous pad upon the opposite side is for the purpose of further cleansing the blade and at the same time drying it. The cleansing and drying operation, under normal conditions, require but a single wipe by each pad, to complete a substantially perfeet job.
WVhile I, have shown the handle 7 as being of a separate piece of material, it is evident that the entire body and handle may be formed of a single piece, as illustrated in Fig. 2 of the drawings, or in other forms as desired without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. An instrument of the character described, comprising a handle portion, a thin fiattenedportion fixed to the handle and having the faces thereof parallel, pads of different character fixed to the opposite faces of the flattened portion and means adjacent the innermost edges of. the pads for supporting the instrument when not in use.
2. An instrument of the character described, comprising a cylindrical shaped body portion having a handle at one end, the opposite end flattened to a rectangular shape transverse the body portion, thetwo faces of said flattened portion being parallel, pads fixed to the opposite faces of the flattened portion and means for preventing the pads from contacting the object upon which the instrument rests when not in use.
