To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PHILIP S. KIMBALL, a citizen of the United Statesfresidingat Milford, in the county of Worcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improvement in Jacks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to extension operating handles for jacks of the type described and claimed in my application filed May 22,

The jack, indicated generally at 1, is here shown of the type illustrated in the application before referred to, includes as the only necessary adjunct for the purpose of the present invention, a permanent jackhandle section 2, adapted to be rotated in the operation of the jack. Such section 2 is preferably'pivotally mounted at the jackend, as at 3, and temporarily held in extended relation through a ball-and-socket lock 4, asshown in Fig. 2.
An extension element is adapted for de tachable connection with the permanent .handle section 2, preferably by a sliding joint and to be held by a spring locking element. Said extension element, as here shown, comprises a plurality of sections, two
being shown at 5 and 6. The sections 5 and 6. are pivotally connected at their meeting ends, through a pivot structure involving a lug 7, projecting from one section fitted between ears 8 formed on the other section Both the lug and ears are laterally enlarged,
as at 9, to permit the pivot-pin 10 to center beyond the longitudinal planes of the similar surfaces of the sections when extended. By reason of the relatively oflset pivot, the sections may fold tially parallel relation, for providing a compact, comparativeiiy short structure, very inrestricted areas, as the usual automobile tool-box. The sections at the inner terminals of the lug and ears are formed to present abrupt or square ends or portions 11, 11, adapted to engage, when the sections are extended and limit the opening movement to alined positions of such sections. p
The free end 12 of one section, as 5, is of non-circular cross-section, and isadapted to fit into a correspondingly shaped and sized socket 13 of the jack-handle section 2.

An extension handle for screw jacks comprising two sections, complementary. interlocking end-portions carried by said sections, a pivotal connectioii between said end. portions offset from and at right angles to j theaxial line of the sections, whereby said sections may be closely folded together, square end-faces-and shoulders disposed on said end portion on opposite sides of the pivotal connection, adapted for engagement to limit the angularmovement,of'the sections in one direction, and pivotally supported hand grips carried by the free terminal of the other section, the pivots of the hand grips being permanently perpendicular to the pivot of the sections to permit the section and hand grips to be folded into compact relation without interference.
