Description

SAMUEL G. BRUCE, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN APPARATUS FOR AGEING AND MIXING LIQUORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 122,513, dated January 9, 1872; antedatcd December 20, 1871.
the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improve- .ment in the construction of a Device for Mixing and Ageing Liquors, Snc., of which 'the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof', which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification.
The present invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in theconstruction of a device for mixing and ageing liquors, sauces, &c., for which l did obtain Letters Patent Nos. 86,64() and 98,226. The said new improvement consists, rst, in the manner of keeping the drip which runs from the sides of the chambers and buckets or beaters off their respective shafts and thus prevent the liquor, sauces, or other article being treated from discoloring by coming in contact with the journals 5 and, secondly, in having the feed-pipes perforated and set directly in the aperture connecting the two chambers so as to throw a spray or shower on the aforesaid buckets or beaters, the construction and operation of which will be fully understood from the following description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing.
Figure No. l represents a side elevation with face-plate removed. Fig.- No.2 is a cross-section of the same taken through the line x.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
In the case here presented the letter A represents the hub, which is keyed to or made in one with the shaft B. The said hub is made with a groove or channel, C, to catch the drip from the buckets or beaters D, and is also recessed so as to receive the bushing E, which is cast on the side plate F, the said groove U, the bushing E, &c., being similar on either side of the machine and around each hub.
It will thus be seen that whilethe groove or channel C arrests the drip of the beaters from the shaft the groove or channel G in the bushing will serve a similar purpose by arresting Vthe drip from the sides of the chambers H H,
and thus keep the liquor or other matter being treated from the shaft and prevent the same from becoming discolored. The feed in this case consists of a perforated tube, I, which will throw a spray or shower upon the beaters and thus enable the' oily globules to be more readily broken than heretofore.
The discharge J extends through the base into any suitable receptacle.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The hub A and bushing E, constructed, arranged, and operating in the manner and for the purpose substantially as herein set forth, shown, and described.
2. The perforated feed l, when used substantially as shown, and for the purpose specified.
S. G. BRUCE.
