CORNER-PIECE FOR WINDOWS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 8, 1911?.
Application filed April 20, 1918. Serial No. 92,?70.
State of New Jersey, have invented new and useful Improvements in Corner-Pieces for \Vindows, of which the following is a specification.
An object of the invention is to produce a device of this character which shall be of an extremely simple construction, cheap to manufacture and which may be easily and quickly applied.
Other objects of the invention are to produce a corner piece for window sashes that will materially strengthen the sash at the joints or corners thereof; to prolong the life of the sash by preventing the accumulation of moisture in the corners of the sash; to facilitate the cleaning of the glass and sash and to prevent the accumulation of} dirt at the corners of the sash and also to assist in maintaining the glass in proper position upon the sash.
The foregoing objects, and others, are accomplished by the construction and arrange ment of the corner pieces constructed in ac cordance with my invention and a satisfactory embodiment of which is illustrated by the accompanying drawing.
In the said drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating the application of my improvement,
Fig. 2 is a sectional view approximately on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1,
Fig. 3 is a sectional View approximately on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1,
Fig. 4 is a perspective View of a corner piece constructed in accordance with the present invention,
Fig. 5 is a similar view of a modification, and
Fig. 6 is a View of the blank from which the corner piece is formed.
Referring now to the drawing in detail 1 designates an ordinary window sash having the usual panes of glass which are held thereon by' putty 3 in the usual manner.
In accordance with my invention each pane of glass is provided with a corner piece a, and as illustrated in Fig. 6 of the drawing each of these corner pieces is struck from a single piece of suitable, preferably resilient metal.
The corner pieces 4 each include a curved body 5 that has one of its edges provided with an angularly disposed prong (3 and its opposite edge provided with an extension projecting in the direction of the prong and providing what I will term an apron 7.
The body 1 is disposed to straddle the putty 3 and the prong is forced into the sash and into contact with the glass, while the apron 7 is arranged to engage with the outer surface of the sash and to be secured thereto in any desired or preferred manner, such for instance, as through the medium of a headed brad S.
The structure disclosed in Fig. 5 of the drawing is substantially similar to that just described, but this device, indicated for distinction by the numeral 9, is adapted for use in the corners of comparatively small sashes, such, for instance, as are employed in railway cars or. the like, but the saidstructure may be also employed, and as illustrated in the drawing, at the corners of the reduced center stiles of the ordinary sashes.
From the above description, taken in con- 'nection with the accompanying drawing,
the simplicity of the device, as well as the advantages thereof will, it is thought, be perfectly apparent to those skilled in the art to which such invention appertains without further detailed description.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is:
1. The combination with a window sash, a glass fitted thereto, and means for securing said glass to saidsash, of corner pieces, each including a body having an inner prong and an outer apron, each of said corner pieces disposed to straddle the glass securing means and to have its prong enter the sash and contact with the glass and its apron to engage with the outer surface of the sash and to be secured thereto.
2. The combination with a window sash, a glass fitted thereto, and means for securing said glass to said sash, of resilient corner pieces for said sash, each of said corner pieces including a rounded body having one of its edges formed with an angularly eX- With the outer surface of the sash, and means tending prong and its outer edge formed for securing the apron to the sash. 10 with an apron extending from the body in In testimony whereof I affix my signature the direction of the prong, said corner piece in presence of tWo Witnesses.
5 arranged to straddle the glass securing HENRY WOLF.
