When the bed is being opened the arms 7 swing from a downwardly a d outwardly inclined position which is approximately 45o relative to the vertical axis of the bed, outwardly and upwardly into a near horizontal position. It will be seen that the arms do not at anytime swing into horizontal position, the inner ends being always the outer ends, thus, when the bed is in horizontal position, the tendency of the inner end of the bed instead of being an upward one is an inward one in a direction substantially in line with the arms 7. This eect is as though abutments werecarried on opposite sides of the bed at the pivot points 6 and were caused toengage with stationary abutments located at the outer ends of the arms 7 when the latter are in near horizontal position. Were pivot points 9 higher up upon the sides of the bed with relation to the pivot points 6 and farther away from said pivot points 6, this effect would not be had, but as the piv-ot points are on the approximate center of gravity line of the bed and as said pivot points 9 are below the center of gravity point and rearwardly of the points 6 the effect above described is had and the bed is balanced in horizontal position. The arms 7 in moving upwardly and outwardly when the bed is being opened cause the bed to be moved out of the casing and this provides for a free circulation of air about the bed. The bed may be swung into closed position by giving it a slight upward pull and following the upward movement with a slight pressure by the hand. When the bed reaches vertical position it is caused to balance in such position since the pivot points 6 of the hangers 4 are then in vertical alinement with the center of gravity of the bed.
With reference to the foregoing description and accompanying drawings, it will be seen that I have provided a bed in which the following advantageous results are accomplished.

3. The bed will balance in 45 and vertical position without the use of weights or springs, thus making it possible to open and close the bed quickly, safely and easily.
What I claim is:
l. ln a folding bed having its center of gravity located approximately centrally of the ends of the bed, a casing therefor, hangers pivoted to the casing at points over and above the bed, said hangers being pivoted to the sides of the bed at opposite points substantially midway of its upper and lower sides between the inner end of the bed and the transverse center line thereof nearer to the center line than the inner end, thrust arms pivoted to the casing rearwardly of the bed below the center of gravity of the bed and extending downwardly and outwardly from the support, said arms being pivoted at opposite points on the sides of the bed between the pivot points of the hangers with the bed and the inner end of the bed below said hanger pivot points and nearer to the inner end of the bed than to said hanger pivot points, said arms adapted to swing outwardly and upwardly relative to the casing when the bed is opened and being downwardly and outwardly inclined with their inner ends located above their outer ends when the bed is in open position for use.
2. In combination a bed having its center of gravity located approximately centrally of the ends of the bed, a housing for the bed, hangers pivoted to the bed and to the housing, the relative arrangement of said pivots causing the hangers t-o move from the substantially vertical position when the bed is vertical to a forwardly and outwardly inclined position when the bed is moved from the vertical to the horizontal position and thrust arms pivoted to the bed and to the housing, the relative arrangement of the pivots of the thrust arms causing the thrust arms to move' from nearer the vertical to nearer the horizontal when the bed is moved from the vertical to the horizontal and the relative arrangement of the pivots connecting the hangers and thrust arms to the bed causing the thrust arms to move forwardly and upwardly toward the hangers when the bed is moved from vertical to horizontal position, said thrust arms having their inner ends located above their outer ends when the bed is in position for use.
3. ln a folding bed, the combination with a bed casing and a bed free from head and counterweights, adapted to lie upright within the casing when in out-of-the-way position and in horizontal position completely horizontal out of the casing when in operative position,
of hangers pivoted to the easing above the bed and pivoted to opposite sides of the bed at points approximately midway of the inner side of the bed and transverse median line thereof midway of the upper and lower sides of the bed, and thrust arms pivoted to the casing at points below the center of gravity of the bed and rearwardly of the pivot points of the hangers with the easing, said arms being pivoted to opposite sides of the bed below and rearwardly of the pivots for the hangers with the bed at p oints substantially midway of the inner side of the bed and the hanger bed pivot points, said arms being inclined downwardly and outwardly when the bed is in out-of-theway and operative positions and extending out of the casing when the bed is in operative position.
4. In a folding' bed, the combination with a bed casing and a bed free from head and cou'nterweights, adapted to lie upright in the easing when in out-of-the-way position and to lie completely out of the casing when in operative position, of hangers pivoted to the easing above the bed and to opposite sides of the bed approximately midway of the upper and lower sides of the bed between the inner side of the bed and the transverse median line thereof, and thrust arms pivoted to the casing at points below the center of gravity of the bed and rearwardly of the pivot points of the hangers with the easing, said arms being pivoted to opposite sides of the bed below and rearwardly of the pivots for the hangers with the bed, the lengths of said arms and the 'set my hand at Los positions of the pivots thereof relative to the casing and bed being such that the center of gravity of the bed moves in a substantially horizontal line which has intermediately a downwardly extending curve traversed by the center of gravity when the bed is in approximately 45 position.
5. In a folding bed, the combination with a bed easing and a bed free from head and Counter weights adapted to lie within the casing when in out-of-the-way position and to lie horizontally completely out of the easing when in operative position, of hangers `pivoted to the casing and bed, thrust arms pivoted to the casing and bed and said hangers and thrust arms having lengths and the positions of their pivots such that the center 'of gravity of the bed moves substantially in a horizontal line which is intermediately downwardly curved, the lowest point of said downwardly curved line being traversed by the center of gravity when the bed is approximately in a 450 position and said thrust arms being substantially at right angles to the bed when the latter is in 45 position, whereby the effect of the positions of the thrust arms relative to the bed and easing, together with the position of the center of gravity, will cause the bed to balance in an approximately 45o position.
