incense;
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May l, 1917.
Application filed July 13, 1916. Serial No. 109,119.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that T, Gnonon H. Time, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Anderson, in the county of Madison and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Heating- Stoves; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and 6313C; description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in heating stoves and more particularly to such as are intended to burn gaseous fuelone object of the invention being to so construct a heating stove as to enhance its capacity to heat the air passing through the same and to increase its general efliciency to a maximum extent.
With this and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts as hereinafter set forth and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings; Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of a stove embodying my improvements; Fig. 2 is a hori zontal sectional view, and Fig. 3 is a separate view of one of the internal radiator units.
1 represents a hollow base casting which may be supported on legs 2 and provided with an open-work bottom or grating 8. The main drum or casing 4 of the stove is mounted upon the hollow base 1, and a. tube or cylinder 5 is located centrally within the base 1 and is open at both ends, said tube or cylinder being mounted upon the bottom grating 3 and extending approximately to the horizontal plane of the top of the hollow base.
A conical drum 6 is disposed centrally within the casing 4: and its upper open end is supported by the top member 7 of said casing the smaller lower end of said conical drum projecting into the open upper end of the tube or cylinder 5. A se 'mental disk 8 is disposed between the conical drum and the outer casing a comparatively short dis tance below the upper end of both, and this disk is provided with a vertical flange 9 which projects upwardly above the plane of the flue opening 10 in the back of the casing tion mixed 4, so that products of combustion mixed with air may be caused to flow to the top of the stove in front of the flange 9 and then downwardly to the flue opening at the back of the stove.
Radiator inembers 11 are located within the casing and disposed so as to project alternately from diametrically opposite portions of the casing 4, said radiator members being perforated to permit the passage through them of the vertical conical drum 6, and thus a worm or spiral passage 12 is formed for the passage of products of combustion from burners 13 located within the base l at respective sides of the tube or cylinder 5.
Each radiator member 11 is made hollow and may conveniently consist of a sheet of metal cut in pro-per shape and bent or folded upon itself to form upper and lower parallel walls spaced apart to provide a chamber or pocket 14 between them. The free edges of each folded radiator member are fitted snugly to the inner face of the casing l, and the latter may, if desired, be provided with grooves 15 to receive the edges of the radiator members.
The outer drum or casing l is provided with perforations 16 so arranged as to communicate with the pockets of the radiator members, and the conical drum 6 is also perforated, as at 17, so as to communicate with the radiator pockets.
From the construction and arrangement of parts as above described, it will be seen that during the circuitous passage through the stove of the heated products of combuswith air, the air passing upwardly through the tube or cylinder 5 and conical drum 6 will be heated and this heated air will escape into the room from the upper end of said conical drum. The heating of air escaping from the conical drum will be augmented and intensified by the passage of air through the hollow radiator members in which the air will absorb heat-from the walls of said members and discharge it into the conical drum.
My improvements insure effectual heating and circulation of the air, and the stove will also effectually heat the surrounding air by radiation.
Slight changes might be made in the details of construction of my invention without departing from the spirit thereof Or limiting its scope and hence I do not wish to restrict myself to the precise details-herein set forth.
Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is
1. In a stove, the combination with a ver tical outer drum and a vertical inner drum open from end to end, of a plurality of hollow deflecting radiator members disposed between said drums and communicating with the outer air and the inner drum.
2. Ina stove, the combination of a vertical outer drum having perforations; a plurality of hollow deflecting and radiator members therein formingpockets in line withthe perforations in the outer drum, a
vertical inner drum open from end to end and passing through the hollow deflecting and radiatonmembers and communicating with the'pockets thereln, and heatmg means below and in communication with said outer drum.
3. In a stove, the combination with a base, a vertical outer drum mounted thereon, and heating means within said base, of a plurality of hollow deflecting and radiator members alternating from diametrically opposite positions of the outer drum and communicating with the outer air, and a vertical conical inner drum open from end to end and passing through said deflecting and radiator members and communicating therewith, said defiectingand radiator'members' and conical drum forming a worm passage for products of combustion.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
GEORGE H. KING.
