MUTOR AND SUPPORT FOR DISPLAY-FORMS AND THE LIKE.

- Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed January a, me. Serial no. rates.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that ll, MORRIS A. HEIMANN, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of St. Louis, State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Motors and Supports for Display- Forms and the like, of which the following is a full, clear, and exactdescription, such as will enable which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part .of this specification.
, y invention relates generally to movable display devices for showwindows and the like, and more particularly to a combined stand or support and motor for display forms and racks, the principal object of my invention being to provide a comparatively simple and inexpensive support for display forms, racks and the like, and which stand or support can be readily shifted from one position to another and being equipped with a motor, preferably electric, which latter is utilized for imparting movement to the dis play figure or rack positioned upon the Further objects of my invention are to provide a combined support and motor which occupies comparatively little space so that it can be readily concealed by the clothing or drapery displayed upon the supported form or rac and furtherto provide a support of the class described having reversible or interchangeable parts which can be assembled in a variety of ways so as to be advantageously utilized for a number of diflerent display purposes.
My improved device, while primarily intended for use in show windows, can be readily utilized on tables, show cases or wherever it is desired to effectively, display plpthing, articles of merchandise and the With the foregoing and other objects in View, my invention consists of certain novel features of construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described,
claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is an elevational view of a combined motor and support of my improved construction and showing a display form positioned thereupon;
Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken vertically others skilled in the art to sired length, and
end of which is through the center of the housing which incloses the motor and conjoined gearing;
Fig. 3 is an elevational view of the motor, the driving gear, and the support or frame therefor Fig. 4 is a horizontal section taken approximately on the line 44 of Fig. 3.
Referring by numerals to the accompanying drawings, 10 designates a suitable base, preferably cast metal, and removably seated therein is the lower end of a post or standard 11. This standard may be of any deremovably positioned on the upper end thereof is a plate 12 in the edge of which is formed an aperture 13 through which passes the cable 14 which contains the electrical connections to the motor forming a part of the device. Re-
movably positioned on plate 12 is a vertically disposed annular wall 15 on the upper samebeing provided with a centrally arranged aperture 17. The annular wall 15, bottom plate 12, and. top plate 16 form a housing for the motor and the driving gear forming a part of the device.
Rigidly fixed on plate 12 is the frame which supports the driving gear, said frame being preferably cast in one piece and comprising a pair, of spaced uprights 18, an upper cross piece 19 and brackets 20 which project laterally from said cross piece.
Detachably secured to the upper ends of brackets 20 is a cross piece 21 which normally occupies the aperture '17 in top plate 16. Fixed on plate 12 between uprights 18 is an electric motor 22, and fixed on the shaft thereof is a pinion 23 which meshes with a comparatively large gear wheel 24. This last mentioned gear wheel is journaled upon a stud 25, which latter is seated in one of the uprights 18, and formed integral with or fixed to. said gear wheel is a pinion 26. Journaled in brackets 20'is a shaft 27 on one end of which is a pinion 28, the same meshing with pinion 26. Fixed on the central portion of this shaft 27 is a worm 29. Operating in an anti-friction bearing 30 on cross piece 19 is a vertically disposed shaft 31 upon the lower end of which is fixed a worm wheel 32, the same meshing with worm 29. -The upper. portion of shaft 31 is preferably tubular and its upper end is internally threaded, as designated by 33, in order to receive the threaded lower end of positioned a plate 16, the
v a post orstandard 34.
Shaft 33 passes through and has bearing in the cross piece 21. Post or standard 34 is of any desired length, and removably positioned upon its upper end is a skeleton frame or spider 35 which is adapted to receive a display form 36 or a rack or platform.
When my improved device is utilized for supporting a form, as illustrated in Fig. 1, it will be understood that the clothing displayed on said form entirely covers the housing of the device and adjacent parts, and consequently when the deviceis in operation the operating mechanism is entirely hidden from view. If desired, the form 36 can be removed from supporting member 35 and replliaced by a'platform or goods holding me During-the operation of my improved device, pinion 23 carried by the shaft of motor 22 transmits rotary motion to gear wheel 2 1 and such motion is transmitted from pinion 26 to pinion 28 and as shaft 27 is ro-. tated, worm 29 carried thereby will drive worm wheel 32, consequently transmitting rotary motion to shaft 31.
By virtue of the relative sizes of the gear wheels and pinions forming the driving mechanism of my improved device,. the speed of motor shaft will be materially reduced in being transmitted to shaft 33 and thus the display form or rack carried thereby will be slowly rotated, thus accomplishing the desired result. By varying the lengths of standardsll and 34, the housing containing the motor; and driving gear andthe supporting member 35 can be mam-- tained at any desired elevation.
A device of my improved construction is comparatively simple, occupies but little floor space, can
position to another, and provides simple and efficient means for a display form or a rack V or platform upon which goods are placed for display purposes. It will be noted that the frame 18 and the motor 22 are firmly be readily shifted from onecompact structure which is very essential and desirable in display devices of this charcter. The cover 15 which is removably positioned on the base plate 13 wholly incloses the motor and gearing, and, therefore, protects the same from dust andthe like.
It will be readily understood that minor changes in the size, form and construction of the various parts of my improved device can be made and substituted for those herein shown and described, without departing from the spirit of my invention, the scope of which is set forth in the appended claim.
I claim:
In a device of the class described, a plate, a frame fixed to and extending upwardly from said plate, a motor fixed on the plate adjacent to the frame, a vertically disposed shaft journaled f r operation in bearings in the upper portion of the frame, a worm wheel on the lower end of said shaft, a horizontally disposed shaft journaled in suitable bearings in the frame, a worm on said last mentioned shaft, which worm meshes with the teeth of the worm wheel, driving gear connections between the motor shaft and the horizontally disposed shaft, a housing removably positioned on the base .and inclosing the frame, the gearing supported thereby, and the motor and a display support removably positioned on the upper end of the vertically disposed shaft.
In testimony whereof this 3d day of January, 1916.
