ing at- Medora, in the Province of Mani: toba and Dominion of Canada, have mvented certain new and useful Improve ments in Shoe-Fastening Devices, of whichmgshown upon the shoe 1n Fig. 1 of the the following is a specification.

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in shoe fastening de-- vice.

The primary object of this irwention is the provision of a device for fastenlng the flap of a shoe in'its closed position, pro

vision being made for readily'releasing the flap throughout its entire length. I

A further object of the device is the provision of a plurality of simultaneously re-. leasable fasteners adapted for retainmga flap in its closed relation upon a shes, the

said fasteners being individually secured during the closing of the flap.

The device contemplates a plurality of spring-catches or clasps for connecting the free edge of a shoe flap with the adjacent portion of the shoe, a single releasing means being employed for all of the sald catches,

the releasing means being resiliently nor' mally positioned assisting in retaining the catches closed.

With these general objects in view and others that will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the appende claims.

The. present device being designed for em- 10 of the ployment as a shoe, fastener, the same is herein illustrated in connection with a shoe eneral form of button shoe having a closafiile flap 11 overlying the adjacent portion of the upper 12 when the shoe is closed or fastened as arranged for wearing,

the normal position of the present device becured closed position.

The flap 11 is provided with a plurality of bolts or arms 13 projecting from the free edge 14 thereof and secured to the flap in any desired manner such as by means of the clutching claws 15.

A receiving lock or keeper 16 is arranged for the free end of each of the arms 18 at a conveniently positioned adjacent point upon the upper side 12, the lock 16 consisting of a casing 17 having an entrance opening 18 in the wall thereof adjacent the flap edge 14: when the flap is closed, while an angular catch bar 19 is pivoted as at 20 within the said casing-and is provided with an inverted bar 19 upon the entrance of the arm 13' Within the casing, which will allow the arm head to depress the latch bar .19 and slide over the lug 21 thereof into its seating position, it being understood that the projection 25 of the arm will engage one of its inclined surfaces with an inclined surface 29 provided upon the inner side of the top wall of the casing 17 whereby as will be evident the arm 13 may be readily forced within the casing 17 for locking engagement with the latch bar 19.

It being understood that a plurality of the lock casings 17 are arranged upon the shoe upper 12 as illustrated in Fig. 1, an

open ended housing 30 is positioned beneath the lower one of the said locks and a similar housing 31 is arranged above all of the locks the lock casings 17 and is secured to the 110' rear free end 34 of each of the latch bars 19 by means of fasteners 35 as best illustrated in Fig. 2 of the drawings by which arrangement, it will be evident that by pulling outwardly upon the cord 37, the latch bars 19 of all of the locks 16 will be simultaneously released. A closing spring 36 :rried in the lower housing 30 having its free end engaged as at 37 with the lower end of the cord 33, while an operating lever 38 is pivoted at an upper corner 39. the said upper end of the cord 33 attached substantially centrally thereto as at 40 whereby an upward springing movement imparted to the lever 18 will exert a pull upon the cord 33 thereby releasing the latch bars 19. Vhen the lever 88 is released, the springs 23 return the latch bars 19 to their normal positions and lower the cord 33 which action is assisted by the afore-mentioned spring 36 of the lower housing 30.

Vhile the form of the invention herein shown and described is what is believed to be the preferred embodiment thereof, it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.

IVhat I claim as new is 1-. In a shoe fastener, a latch bar adapted to be attached at one end to a, shoe upper and having a head on its free end provided on the lower face with a V-shaped projection and on its upper face with an inverted V-shapecl projection, a receiving casing for the headed end of said latch bar having an entrance slot'and provided in its top wall with a seat for the inverted V-shaped projection of said latch bar, a locking bolt pivoted within the casing provided with an inverted V-shaped lug to engage the V-shaped projection 0n the latch bar, and a spring within the casing bearing against the locking bolt.

2. In a shoe fastener, a latch bar, a receiving casing for the free end of said casing having a seat, a head on the latch bar having a projection to engage said seat, a

locking bolt in the casing, a lug on said bolt and a projection on the latch bar to err gage said lug, and a spring in the casing normally holding the bolt in engagement with the latch bar and the latch bar in engagement with the casing.
