UNITED STATES SAMUEL S. SHOREY,l OF HOPEDALE, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO GEORGE DEAPEE a son, oF sAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN HOLERSFOR SPINNING-RINGS.A
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 122,335, dated January 2, 1872.
To allpersons to 'whom thesepreseuts may come:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL S. SHORE-Y, of Hopedale, of the county of Worcester and State of Massachusetts, have made a new and useful invention `for Supporting the Ring ot' a Spinning-Frame; and do hereby declare the same to be fully described in this my specifr cation and represented in the accompanying drawing, of which- Figure l is a top view, Fig. 2, a bottom view; Fig. 3, an edge eleva-tion; and Figs. 4 and 5, transverse sections of my said ring retainer or supporter. Fig. 6 is a top view; Fig. 7 a bottom view; and Figs. 8 and 9, transverse sections of it and a spinning-ring as applied to it.
The said retainer is specially applicable to duplex race-ring-that is, one having the form, ets-represented in the drawing, or provided with two circular races, a b, united by a short tube, neck, or connection, c, such composing the ring A. The retainer B, as shown, consists of a at annulus, having holes l d through it or arranged rin it, as shown, to receive the screws by which it is to be fastened to the The said annulus on its inner edge is sawed into or split in, four places radially, or in or about in parallel lines, to the depth of about the sixteenth of an inch. Next two opposite areal portions f f of the annulus are turned upward to obtuse angles with the upper face of the annulus, leaving between them two arca-1 bearings or rests g g for the support of a spinning-ring, A, when sprung between the two parts or jaws f f. rlhe Itwo jaws are curved to tit to and grasp the periphery of the lower race of the ring A in manner as shown in the drawing, the inherent elasticity of the jaws or of them and the rest of the supporter suficing to hold the ring down upon the supporter and admit of its being readily removed therefrom, asoccasion may require. The curved form ofthe areal jaws sutlices to cause them to hold the ring in a manner to prevent any latadvantage, as it admits of the connection of the ring and the supporter as well while the two may be off as while they may be on the ring-rail, thereby enabling the rings and supportersto be preserved from being improperly intermixed while oi' the rail so as to get mistted.` It enables a party when purchasing the rings and supporters to be sure of a proper iit of each ring to its supporter, the two being purchased together. Furthermore, my invention saves all necessity of splitting theriugsupporter tol enable it to be sprung upon the ring, thus avoiding all danger of `the ring becoming detached from the supporter in case of the accidental loosening of its confining screw.
I claim- Thespinnng-ring supporter or retainer as made or providedwith the areal jaws j' f and the intermediate areal ring rests g g, arranged together andq with the remainder of the annulus B, substantially in manner and to operate as described.
. SAMUEL S. SHOREY.`
