To oil whom is? may-consom:
Be it known that i, TONY iiioLiNAiio, e citizen of the United States, residing et Siver Lake, in the 4Cooney of Essex and Siete of New Jersey, have invented 'new mici useful improvements in Rotary Shoe- @isomersv of which the oiiowing is e speciiieeioii. e y
This invention contemplates the provision of e shoe eieeniiig machine e substiiute for the vieil known form or" {ioor met.
The iiveii'tion aims to provide e device of 1Ehe above mentioned ehaiecter embodying among other features o rotary brush mounte upon e casing for quickly removing inurl or `iiie like from theshoe, and depositingthe seme in e suitabie receptacle Within the eesiiig for disposal when =iesirefi.

Fixed upon the shaft 24 is a beveled gear 27' cooperating with a carried by the lower end of a vertically disposed operating shaft 29 by means of which rotary motion is imparted 'to the shaft 2e. The casing is closed by means of a cover 30 of a size to project a slight distance beyond lthe Walls of the casing, and secured thereto in any suitable manner, preferably by means of the fastening bolts 3l. The cover is provided adjacent one end with a suitable opening in which is threaded the lower end of a tubular casing 32, the latter being closed at its lower end except for a restricted opening through which the operating shaft 29 projects, the casing being further secured to the cover by means of the nut 33 as shown. The tubular casing rises 'from the cover an appreciable distance and is closed at its app-er end by means of an enlarged cap 3% having a reduced interiorly threaded portion 35 threaded upon the upper portion of the casing 32. The operating shaft projects above the upper end of the casing 82 and has fixed thereon a beveled gear 36 'which is positioned Within the cap 34; Therap is provided with an enlarged opening 3? which is closed by means of a disk 38, and vjournaled in said disk is a shaft 39 having fixed on one end thereof a beveled gear l0 meshing 'with the gear 36, While secured to the outer end of the shaft 39 is a crank handle lll, which when operated rotates the shaft 29, the latter in turn imparting a rotary motion to the shaft 2lithrough the medium of the beveled gear connection as shown, the gear wheel 25 being iXed upon the shaft 2st for rotation therewith, and meshing with the gear 2l in the brush i'or the purpose intended. lt will be noted that the 4mechanism. for rotating the brush is housed Within the compartment l2 and thereby protected from inclement weather, while the partition l0 prevents dirt, mud or other foreign matter from entering the compartment which would obviously interfere with the eiiiciencyof the machine. Similarly the operating shaft 29 and its gear connections are also protected from Weather by means of the casing 32 and the cap 34, the casing 32 being effectively braced by means of the brace rods l2 terminally connected at one end With the cover, and having their opposite ends secured in any suitable manner to a clamp 43 embracing the casing at a suitable point in its length.
similar gear 28 forth and iron'i one end of 'the brush to the other into engagement with the end portions thereof, will be thoroughly cleaned and. relieved oi' the inud or dirt clinging thereto. rl Inud and dirt passes through the space. at the opposite sides oi. the brush into the casn ing and is deposited in a suitable receptacle slidably litted 'within the casing through an opening in one of 'the side Walls thereol, the receptacle b i 4l? for va'itlnlrawing the same from the casv ing when it is desired to dispose of the innd and dirt contained within the receptacle. lt will be manifest that by properly adjnsting the hollow sleeve in the end wall. S in the partition l@ the brush may be easily removed from the casing subsequent to the removal olf the cover therefrom, for the pun pose ci repairing 'the brush, cleaning same, or substituting a neviY brush for an old Worn out one The machine in addition. boing easily manipulated is very eilicicnt i its purpose.
lt is believed that from -the foregoing description the nature and advantages or the invention -will be thoroughly understood i hout ,requiring a more extended esplana-n tion and there-tore the same has been omitted. l desire 'to have it nrerlovvever l derstoofl that l precise construction and arrangement of parte herein shown 'and described, as 'the same is merely illustrative oli one embodi ment of the invention, and that various changes in 'the construction and arrange mentof parts may be resorted to` when sircd as fall Within the scope of the afapended claims.
What is claimed is l. in a. device of the class described in combination a casing' having a central pan tition.` a pair olf alinin0A sleeves threaded, into one Wall of said casing and the parti 5 tion respectively, a counter shaft rnennted in said partition at one end and another wall of said casingat opposite end., the outer bearings of said last named counter provided with handle do not limit niysel" 'to 'the shaft being removable, and an internal gear upon said counter shaft, and a sleeve threaded into partition in -which one end oit said counter shaft is received, said internal gear said last named sleeve so as 'to be limited against movement in one direction, a stub shaft having a Shoal-- der engaging one of said i rst named sleeves,
i a small gear listed upon said stub shalt and The cover 3CF is provided with an clonl gated 'opening la through which the brush partly projects, and secured to the cover at use the heel ot the shoe' is placed upon the rest 45 and the brush rotated by turning the crank @lA in the manner hereinabove described, and While 'the brush is being ro tated the shoe on being moved back and rest 4&5. ln f engaging in said internal 'gear .and held against displacement by the latter. a brush spool, and a shaft carried by said brush spool and having at one end a poly/sided bore, one end or said last named shaft being received in one of said first named sleeves, said stub shaft having a polysided portion fitting.;r in said bore and adapted '1o rotate said brush spool.
2. In a, device of the class described, in combination a casing, a partition in said easing, :i brush spool having :i polysided bore :it one end und at its opposite end journaled in one Wall of said easing, av Stub shaft jouinaled in said partition and having a. polysidefl portion fitting in said polysided bore and supporting said Spool for rotation, said stub shaft being detachable from engagement with said spool to permit the opposite end of the spool shaft to be removed from the easing, a. geel' .Wheel carried hy said stub Shaft, :t drive shaft adapted to have longitudinal movement, and :m internal gear fixed upon said drive Shaft, detachable' from said first named gear by the longitudinal movement hoi? said Shaft and. adapted to mesh With the latter to rotate,
the stub Shaft.
In testimony whereof I allix my signature. 20
