SHEET-MUSIC AND LOOSE-LEAF BINDER.
reeaaoo.
Application filed September 18, 1916. Serial No.
To all wwm t may concern.'
Be it known that l, HARRY B. lVATERs, of Denver, in the county 'of Denver and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sheet-Music and Loose-Leaf Binders, of which the following is a' full, clear, and exact description.
y invention relates to improvements 'in more especially for binding together in pamphlet form, single copies of sheet music, which are invariably printed on one or more double sheets or pages and a single insert sheet or page.
fn carrying out my invention, l have particularly in view as an-object, the provision or pages of a piece of sheet-music together in pamphlet form, in such manner, so that the lleaves or pages of the sheet music will practically be hinged together at the-fold, So that the pages will open to the fullest extent and lie flat when opened.
A further object of my invention is to pro- Vide a binder which while fastening the leaves or pages of sheet-music together in pamphlet form, will also .strengthen the pagesat the fold and thereby prevent wear and tear.
With the above-recited objects and others of a similar nature in view, my invention `consists in certain features of construction ttl and in combination of parts hereinafter described and set forth in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l shows a view of a piece of sheet-music the pages of which are bound together through the agency of my improved binder. Fig.` 2 is an end or edge view showing a folded or double page' and a single page of sheetp music bound togetherthrough the agency of my binder. Fig. 3 1s ay full view of the binder as it is constructed.
The binder is cut from any suitable, pliable material, such as cloth or leather. The binder is made to be used as a sticker having an adhesive preparation applied to the side to be fastened to the sheets or pages proposed to be bound.
A. represents the body of the binder, which is cut in oblong shape, having the corners rounded. rlwo tonguesV b o are cut at approximately each end of body, extending in opposite directions from center of body `of binder, said center being represented by a line drawn from c to c. l/Vhen the body of binder is folded evenly at the center on a 'Specication of Letters Patent.

same as pages in a book.
When the binder is used to fasten the pages of a piece of sheet-music together in pamphlet form, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, two or more binders are used. Slits CZ y as shown in Figs. l and 2 are made through the fold of the double or outside pages of the sheet-music, preferably near the upper and lower ends of the pages'where the binders are to be applied, suiiiciently long to admit the tongues of the binders; The tongues of the binder are then inserted into the slits CZ d from the outside of the double page as shown in Fig. 2. rlhe body of the binder is then folded over and pasted to the upper and lower pages of the outside double page as shown in Fig. 1. As shown in Fig. 2, the tongues ZJ of the binder, are then pasted to the single or insert page.
When it is desired to bind a number of all double pages together by means of my improved binder, slits to admit the tongues of the binders are folds of all the pages and the tongues are pasted to the inside of the middle or center page. The body ofthe binder is folded over and pasted to the outside pages as shown in Fig. l.
When it is desired to bind several single sheets or pages together in pamphlet form by means of of the binders are pasted to the outside of the upper and lower pages, the tongues of the binder protruding inward between the upper and lower pages. The tongues are then pasted to the inside pages as shown in Fig. 2.
l am aware ofthe fact that there are a .number of binders or fasteners usedfor the purpose of binding pamphlet form, such as wire cleats, metal clips, etc., but with none of them is it possible to bind all single sheets. or both single and double sheets or pages 'together in pamphlet form and in suchmanner as will allow the pages to open fully at the folds and per p ages together in made evenly through the my improved binder, the folds mit the pages to lie fiat when opened, as is necessary when sheet-music is placed open on a music rack.
Users of sheet-music recognize the fact that the'loose pages of their collection of one preferred embodiment of my invention,
I wish it to be understood that I do not coniine myself 'to all struction, .as there may be modifications in regard to details, without sacrificing any of the advantages thereof.
body of the binder may be of any desired will therefore' the precise details of con- For instance, thev width and length and contain any number of tongues will allow. The binder may be used for binding together in pamphlet form loose leaves or pages f any nature, such as manuscripts, legal documents, specifications, etc.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A binder or fastener'composed of asinglel piece of i pliable material, cut in oblong shape, ada ted to be folded evenly lengthwise, there y forming two4 opposite wings and having tongues cut von opposite wings extending from the fold outwardly and having the inner facesv of the wings and tongues coated with adhesive. f
