Description

I. C. HILL.
BOTTLE.
APPLICATION FILED APR.29| I9I6.
Patenlted M31. 27, 1917.
JOHN CHARLES HILL, OF MAZENOD, SASKATCHEWAN, CANADA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE- FIF'II-I TO WILLIAM D. MGNAUGI'ITON, OF MAZENOD, CANADA.
BOTTLE.
To all whom t may concern Be it known that l, Jol-rn C. Hna., a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Mazenod, in the Province of Saskatchewan and Dominion of Canada, have invented new and useful Improvements in Bottles, of which the following is a specification.
rlhe invention relates to bottles, and more particularly to the class of non-refillable bottles of the valve type.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a bottle wherein the valve for controlling the inlet through the neck of the bottle will become Vautomatically seated should an attempt be made to introduce liquid into the bottle through the neck after the original filling of the same, thereby avoiding any possibility of the refilling of the bottle, but its original contents can be readily dispensed therefrom, and in this manner the user will know the genuineness of the contents.
Another obj ect of the invention is the provision of a bottle of this character wherein the valve can be initially lifted for the filling of the bottle through the neck thereof and thereafter the said valve will be freed for the seating of the same to avoid the refilling of the bottle in event that an attempt be made to introduce liquid through the mouth of the bottle.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a bottle of this character wherein the construction thereof is novel in form to avoid tampering with the contents of the bottle and eliminating the possibility of surreptitious filling thereof.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a bottle of this character which is extremely simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and efficient in operation and inexpensive in manufacture.
Other objects will be in part obvious and in part hereinafter set forth. v
rlhe invention accordingly consists in the features of construction, combination of elements and arrangement of parts which will be exemplified in the construction hereinafter set forth, and the scope of the application of which will be indicated in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a fragmentary vertical longi- Specication of Letters Patent.
Application filed April 29, 1.916.v Serial No. 94,481.
tudinal4 sectional view through a bottle constructed in accordance with the invention, showing the lifter for the valve integral therewith lFig. 2 is a similar view showing the lifter for the valve removed; and
Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views of the drawing.
Referring to the drawing in detail, A designates a portion of the body of a bottle, preferably made from glass, although the same may be made from any other suitable material and of any desirable shape, having a neck B, through which is poured the contents from the bottle, the said neck being preferably of uniform cross section throughout its length and has formed therein spaced from its inner end, an inwardly tapered or substantially conical shaped valve seat 5 providing a central opening 6 and also having outwardly convergent apertures or holes 7 concentric-ally of the central opening 6 therein so that when the latter is opened the holes or apertures 7 will permit the free flow of liquid from the body A of the bottle.
Formed interiorly of the neck B at the outer end thereof is a guard 8 which is formed with an inwardly tapered central opening 9 and curved holes 10 which open into the central opening 9 through the wall thereof and also through the inner end or face of the guard 8, whereby the contents of the body A of the bottle will freely flow through the neck B from the mouth thereof when the said bottle is tilted for the pouring of its contents.
Arranged within the neck B of the bottle and between the valve seat 5 and the guard 8 is a gravitating valve 11 which is shaped correspondingly to the central opening 6 in the said seat and is formed centrally thereof with an outwardly projected lifting stem 12 having a contracted or weakened portion 13 at its inner end or at a point next to the valve 11, and this stem 12 permits the raisingof the valve 11 from its seat 5 so that the bottle can be convenient .y filled through the neck thereofand upon completely filling the bottle on pressing laterally upon the stem 12 the same will become fractured or broken at its weakened point 13 from the valve 11 so that it will be impossible to further lift the valve, whereby the same will be free for engagement with the seat 5 to close the bottle, yet on the tilting of the latter the original. contents thereof can be readily poured through the neck of the same for the dispensing of the liquid within the bottle. The guard 8 in the neck B of thefbottle prevents any possibility of the lifting of the valve 11 from its seat 5 because by reason of the particular contour of the valve and the seat there is a snug fit between the same, and it will be impossible to insert an instrument or tool therein for eifecting the lifting of the valve from the seat so as to surreptitiously fill the bottle or tamper with the originalV contents. In the manufacture of .the bottle the body thereof is preferably 0.
made in two parts by the molding of such parts and prior to the joining of the parts the holes or apertures 7 and the passages l0 are formed in the valve-seat 5 and the guard 8 and thereafter the valve is placed between two parts of the body of the bottle and iinally the two parts are joined together,
, although the bottle can be made in any approved manner.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the construction and manner of use of my non-reillable bottle will be readily apparent and, therefore, a more extended explanation has been omitted.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
The combination with a bottle having a neck, of a frusto-conical shaped valve seat formed interiorly of the neck and having apertures spaced from the wider end of the valve seat, a valve correspondingly shaped to the seat and normally engaged therein to cover the apertures, a guard interiorly of the `neck and spaced outwardly from the valve seat and having an inwardly tapered central opening and also laterally and downwardly curved passages leading from said opening through the inner end of the guard, and a stem projecting from the valve through the central and having a weakened portion next to the valve.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN CHARLES HILL.
