JOHN A. MATSON, or NEW'YQRK, N. Y.
NON-REFILLABLE BOTTLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
PatentedApr.6,1915.
Application filed April 18, 1914; Serial No. 832,770.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, JOHN A. MATSON, a subject of the King of Great Britain, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Non-Refillable Bottle, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention has for its object to provide a bottle with a cup in its neck and having a central valve opening in which is normally disposed a plunger with a stem disposed in a central opening, in a guide having lateral openings through which the liquid may flow from the bottle and air may flow into the bottle to replace the liquid which has flowed therefrom.
Additional objects of the invention will appear in the following specification in which the preferred form of my invention is disclosed.
In the drawings similar reference characters refer to similar parts in all the views in which Figure 1 is a sectional view showing the' upper portion of a bottle provided with my improvement; Fig. 2 isa view similar to that shown in Fig. 1 but with the bottle tip therefrom with a liquid contained therein; and Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
By referring to the drawings it will be seen that the bottle 5 has a neck 6, and at the inner side of this neck 6 there is an annular flange 7 on which rests a flange 8 on the cup member 9, this cup member 9 having a cup 10 with converging inner sides 11 and a central opening 12 at its bottom. Disposed on the cup member 9 there is a guide member 13 which has a guideway 14 through which is disposed a stem 15 on a plunger 16, this plunger 16 having substantially parallel side walls 17, the lower ends of which converge to the bottom 18 of the plunger so that the plunger will be substantially of the shape of a projectile. This plunger 16 is normally disposed in the opening 12 with its side walls 17 engaging the sides of the opening 12 to close the said opening. The stem 15 at the guide member 13 is provided with a knob 19. The guide member 13 is star shaped as shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings, the five radial arms 20 of the guide is secured in the stopper lining 22. Between the stopper lining 22 and the neck 6 of the bottle a sleeve 25 is introduced.
In using the invention it will be seen that a fluid cannot be poured into the bottle when the bottle is in the position shown in. Fig. 1 of the drawings; but while this is so, when the bottle 5 is inverted as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings, the fluid contained in the bottle may flow through the opening 12 and through the lower openings 26 in the guide member 13, air flowing through the upper openings 26 in the said guide member and into the bottle through the opening 12 to replace the fluid which has been poured from the bottle.
The stopper lining 22 has its side walls converging upwardly at 22*, and the sleeve 25 has a wedge portion 25 at its upper end for pressing against the converging walls 22 of the stopper lining 22.
Having thus described my invention I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
. 1. A bottle having an inner flange, a cup with a central opening and having a flange resting on the first mentioned flange, a guide disposed on the cup, a stopper lining spaced from the bottle wall and resting on the flange of the cup, the stopper lining being provided with a shoulder resting on the guide and having the upper portion of its side walls converging, and a sleeve disposed between the stopper lining and the bottle wall, the sleeve resting on the cup flange, and having a wedge portion normally pressing against the converging upper walls of the stopper lining.
2. In a non-refillable bottle, a bottle having an internal flange in its neck, a cup having a central opening, the inner end of which is conical and provided with an external flange resting upon the flange of the bottle, a disk-like-guide having a central opening and a plurality of openings around the central opening and resting upon the top of the cup, a lining of less diameter than the neck of the bottle and resting upon the flange of the cup,
name to this specification in the presence of the two subscribing Witnesses.
JOHN A. MATSUN.
the lining being provided With an internal shoulder resting on the guide, a sleeve between the lining and the neck of the bottle, and a conical plunger in the cup and having a stem extending through the central opening of the guide.
' In testimony whereof I have signed my Witnesses:
EVERARD B. MARSHALL, PHILIP D. RoLLHAUs.
C'opies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents, Washington, D. G.
