DOOR-SECURER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 27, 1917.
Application filed August 9, 1916. Serial No. 113,920.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DANIEL P. DAUGH- ERTY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Worden, in the county of Klamath, State 0' Oregon, have invented a new and useful Door-Securer; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a new and useful securer for holding a door closed from the intlegrior without employing a key in the One of the objects of the invention is to provide an angular plate, one arm of which is provided with a lip to embed in the jamb of the door frame, with the arm between the door and the jamb, in combination with a plate pivoted upon the other arm and having an overhanging spring arm, the extremity of which engages a recess of the second arm, to hold the plate overlying the door, to prevent the door from being opened.
In practical fields the details of construction may necessitate alterations falling within the scope of what is claimed.
The invention comprises further features and combination of parts as hereinafter set forth shown in the drawings and claimed.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a view in perspective of a portion of a door and the jamb, showing the securer as applied thereto, to hold the door closed.
Fig. 2 is a and the jamb, and the plate pivoted to one of the arms as thrown vertically, so that the door may be opened.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view on line 33 of Fi l.
Fig. 4 is a view in elevation, showing the locking plate moved in such a position that the extremity of the spring arm of said looking plate is about in the act of engaging a notch in one end of one of the arms of the angle plate, the other arm of which extends into the space between the edge of the door and the jamb.
Referring more especially to the drawings 1 designates an angular plate, the short arm 2 of which is designed to engage between the perspective view of the door showing the securer applied,
edge of the door and the jamb of the frame, so that the long arm 3 engages the face 41- of the frame of the door. The short arm 2 is provided with a lip 5, which is designed to embed into the jamb of the door frame, thereby preventing displacement of the angular plate when the door 6 is closed. Pivoted by means of the pivot pin 7 to the arm 3 of the angular plate 1 is a latching or looklng plate 8. This plate is so pivoted to the angular plate 1, that when it is disposed as and the tapered lugs 12. The end portion 9 he plate 8 terminates in an arched spring arm 13, the portion 14 of which extends toward the door frame, so that the extremity of the portion 14; will ride over one or the other of said lugs 12 and engage the notch 11, thereby holding the plate 8 in the position shown in Figs. 1 and 3, so that its portion 9 Will be held overlying the door 6. It is to be noted that the angular plate 1 may be arranged in position temporarily, but the is provided with an aperture 15,
he invention having been set forth what is claimed as new and useful is In a door securer, the combination of a plate and an arm integral on one end thereof adapted to extend between the edge of a door and the jamb and provided with a lip to embed in the jamb, of a second plate pivoted to the first plate and adapted to overlie the door to prevent the same from opening, the pivot of the second plate being arranged in such relations with the arms of the first plate, that the second plate may be disposed vertically whereby the door may swing freely open, and means for locking the second plate in a position overlying the In testirnony whereof I have signed my door, said means comprising a notch in one name to this specification in the presence of end of the first plate, and a laterally arched two subscribing witnesses. spring arm at one end of the second plate, DANIEL P. DAUGHERT Y.
the extremity of which spring arm engages Witnesses:
H. L. Vnrr,
said notch to hold the second plate lying H. J. MATHESON.
across the door.
