Description
n43.) ERNST KIHSCH.
Improvement in Rocking Horses.
NO. 121345, Patented Dec-19, 187%..
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ERNST KIRSOH, OF SOUTH AMESBURY, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN ROCKING-HORSES.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ERNST KIRSGH, of South Alnesbury, in the county of Essex and State of Massachusetts, hayeinvented an Improved Rockin g-Horse; and I do hereby declare that the following, taken in connection with the drawing which accompanies and forms part of this specification, is a description of my invention sufficient to enable those skilled in the art to practice it.
My invention relates to an improvement in rocking-horses, designed either for toys or for exercise. In my invention 1 form all of the frame, except the stretchers or cross-ties, of pieces or strips of metal or wood, bent into proper form; and my invention consists in a rocking-horse in which the rockers are formed entirely of bent stock, connected at their opposite ends by bent braces 01 pe ches curved in an upward and opposite direction to the rockers, and serving as the support for the seat or saddle, there being also third Pi es or braces, or foot-rest pieces, of bent stock, extending from the rear of the centers of the rockers up to the perches in front of the saddle, the sides or side pieces being connected by suitable cross-bars or stretchers.
The drawing shows a rocking-horse embodying my improvement.
to 1) denote the two rockers, preferably formed of tough and somewhat pliable wood, originally straight, but bent, by steaming or other suitable aids to bending, into the curved shape shown in the drawing. The rockers are made very long and are very considerably curved, and are connected together by a suitable number of stretchers or cross-ties, c d e. To these rockers, and at or near the end stretchers c e, the opposite ends of two perches, f g, are fastened, these perches being formed of similar stuff, or of other suitable material, bent to the shape shown in the drawing, the opposite of the rockers. Upon the top of these perches is the saddle or seat h, which may have at its front end the head of a horse or any other suitable figure, having projecting handles 1'. At or near the opposite ends of the stretchers d the lower ends of two braces, k l, also made of stuff bent into form, are fixed to the rockers, these braces rising and extending toward the front and being fastened to the two perches, as well as to the opposite sides of the saddle-head. A stretcher, m, extends across the braces 70 I, projecting beyond them so as to form two foot-rests, n. When the rockers, perches, and braces are thus formed, and are properly united and connected by the stretchers, the rocking-horse is very stron g and enduring, and is light and springy and of graceful form. The disposition of the parts may be to some extent changed, keeping the general construction embracingthe bent rockers, perches, and braces. A reacting spring may be aflixed to the end of one, two, or more of the rockers, as seen at B.
I claim- A rocking-horse made of the bent stock, constructed, connected, and relatively arranged, substantially as described.
ERNST KIRSOH.
