Specification of Letters Patent.

To all/whom t may concern:

Be it known that I, ADDISON N. HIMEs, a citizen of the United States, residing. at Berkeley, in the ctnty of Alameda and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Auto Commissaries and Tables, of which the following is'a specification.

This invention relates to an appliance which is designed to be used in conjunction with automobiles and the like to provide convenient accommodations for commissary purposes, said device being capable of extension to form a table and seats which may be used for convenience while eating.

It consists of a rectangular box-like casing having compartment boxes slidable in at one side and having extension leaves hinged to the upper portionl in such a manner that they may be turned down and form a closure for each side of the casing, when the compartment boxes are in place. These leaves have hinged to their outer edges strips which are foldable against the inside of the leaves when the device is closed, but which 4may be opened out and formv a support for the leaves, so that the latter are extended in a horizontal position on a level with the top when the device is to be used for a table.

LA is an exterior rectangular casin made of convenient size tobe placed in ront of the rear seat of an automobile, in which position it serves conveniently as a supplemental seat. This Icasing is provided with drawers 2 which are slidable in and out, and which may be provided with compartments and other-wise arranged to receive such articles as are necessary for commissary purposes, such as knives, forks, spoons, plates, cups, saucers, etc., and valso food properly prepared to fit into the boxes.

The sides of the casing, in line with theboxe's, form leaves 3 which are hinged to the top 'in such a manner that they may be opened and stand level therewith. When `closed, these sides cover the whole of the opposite open spaces of the casing and, when locked, secure the contents. When opened up they are vsupported in this position by strips of material4 which are hinged to the under part of the covers pr leaves l3 at theirv outer edges, These legs are just long enough to hold the table in a level position and the depth of the table and the width of the leaves are such that the legs will just fold beneath the table, occu ying the full width of the leaves. When fiilded inthis manner they lie against the bottom or underside of theitable leaves and when not in use to support said leaves,I they may be held in'position by buttons or fastenings which preventl them fromA falling down. The leaves may then be closed down and secured at the lower edge to the bottom of the casing, thus sealing it up.

When the leaves are opened out the boxes or compartments may be withdrawn and the contents may be spread upon the table. The boxes are of such length that, when emptied of their contents, they will serve as seats. The table may be placed contiguous to the running-board of an automobile, which will form seats for two persons, while these boxes may be disposed on the opposite side and form seats for two more persons, thus utilizing j theI device in avery economical manner.

When the meal has been finished, the adjuncts may be again placed in the boxes and the boxes placed in the case, and the legs which support/ the leaves are folded up against the underside of the leaves, the latter then beingclosed down and confining the boxes in their places maybe locked in any suitable manner.

Handles 6 may be formed in the ends of the case by which it may be conveniently lifted and moved around.

Havin thus described my invention,

lwhat I c aim and desire to secure by Letters hinged to their lower edges and foldable against their inner faces, said legs being capable of extension at right angles with I the boards, with their lower ends resting upon the ground to hold the boards substantially level with the upper side of the case and forming therewith a table.

2. A combination containing case, table and seats, including an exterior case having top, bottom andend members permanently united and open sides, drawer-like boxes slidable into and litting the interior of the case, and sides hinged to the top of the ease adapted to be opened out to form leaves of a table, said sides having legs hinged to their movable'edges and foldable against the lower isides of the leaves to allow them to close and open at right angles so that their 315v free ends will rest upon the ground and support the leaves parallel with the top of the case, said boxes being removable and convertible into seats.`
