To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, Mnnmec S. Bocou r- SKI, a subject of the Emperor of Austria- Hungary, residing at Clyuler, in the county of Indiana and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Reading-Brackets for Beds, ct which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in reading brackets for beds.

he primary object of this invention is the provision of an adjustable bracket readily attachedto a bedstead and being swingingly adjustable for positioning a reading sup ort convenient -for use by an occupant of t e bed.

The block 14 has threaded bore or socket 18 adapted for the" engaging reception of an adjusting bolt 12' which freely extends through a journaling opening20 of the clamp member 17, the said bolt having an annular collar 21 engagingv the said clamp member outwardly of the journaling opening and being adapted for turning by means of a terminal handle or finger hold 22.

A reading table or support member 32 is adjustably and tiltnbly mounted'at the inner free end of the innermost arm 27, such mounting being accomplished by means of a block 33 having a bolt 4 projecting through a vertical perforation 35 at the free end of the adjacent-arm 27,,the

The table 32 has a centrally positioned lug 37 upon the bottom thereof and through which a perforation 38 extends while a shaft 39 projecting from the block 33 is journaled through this perforation 38 and in this manner the table is tiltably mounted upon the block 33. An expansion spring 40 encircles the shaft 39 and engages at one end the block 33 and the adjacent face of the lug 37 while an adjusting nut 41 screw-threaded upon the outer end of the shaft .39 provides an adjustment for the tension of the said spring and may be employed for locking the table against being tilted the spring binding the block 33 and lug 37 into relative immovable positions.

-Fl'()lil this detailed description of the. in vention, the complete operation of the hi vention will be at once apparent, the entire device being readily attached to the corner post of the bedstead by positioning the post thereof between the opposite opened clamp ing jaws 15 and 1H and then turning the bolt 19 by means of its handle 22 and thus drawing-the clamp block it and member -17 together, impinging the post therebe tween while the rod 2.3 insures the ('orreet positioning of the jaws during the operation of the bolt. .The arms 17 may be positioned in ali'nement or at any relative angle desired by manipulating the lock nuts 31 while the table block 33 may be sii'nilarly adjusted by manipulating the nut 36. \Vhen the bracket is thus positioned and looked as desired, the table 32 may bo readily turned upon-the journal shaft 39 to any desired tilted"or .inclined position by the occupant of bed 10 and as bestillustrated by dotted lines in Fig. 1 of the drawings, it being understood that the tension spring 40 retains the table against accidental turning when operatively employed for supporting reading matter, although the same may be readily forced in an arouate path with res ect to the shaft 39 by exerting sufficient orce thereto for overcoming the resistance of the retaining spring 40.

It will thus be seen that a serviceable reading table is provided which is easy and inexpensive to manufacture and while the form of the invention herein shown is what is believed to be the preferred embodiment of the device, minor details of colfstruction may be changed without departing from the. scope of the invention as claimed.

\Vhat I claim as new is:-

In a bracket as specified, the combination of a supporting arm having a vertical opening in its outer end and slots radiating from the opening, a block seated on said arm and having a. depending bolt extending downwardly through said opening to support the block for pivotal adjustmentin a horizontal plane and further having ribs radiating from the bolt, a set nut on the lower end of the bolt for binding on gage! int against the arm to retain said ribs in the slots and secure the block from turning when adjusted, said block also having a shaft extending horizontally from one side thereof, a table having a'depending apertured lug engaging over the shaft to permit tilting of the table into various angles, a set nut on the outer end of said shaft adapted to bear against said lug, and an expansion springinterposed between the lug and the block to yieldingly hold the table in adjusted position.
