WINDOW-STAND.
7 Application filed May 28, 1915, Serial No. 30,999.
object the provision of a structure wherein the main working surface is continuous from end to end and also the stand is provided with steps by which the desired working position of the operator may be attained.
Heretofore window stands have had several objections; by providing a solid top working surface they did not enable the operator to assume a higher or lower position on the stand so that the various parts of the window could be reached in his best possible working condition, or by providing steps above or below the main surface a 'portion of said surface had to be removed and thereby endangering the life of the operator who was liable through absentmincledness to step into the hole.
In this invention the above difliculty is obviated by providing steps to either side of the main working surface and therefore the said surface may be made continuous from end to end.
In the accompanying drawings; Figure 1 is a side elevation of the stand as applied to a window; Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view of the stand; Fig. 3 is a section on line 3-3, Fig. 2; and Fig. 4 illustrates a modification of the stand as applied to a window balcony.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts throughout the accompanying specification.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 5 indicates a main working surface comprising a board which is solid from end to end, the inner end of this board is adapted to rest on the window sill, and adjacent the outer end on each side thereof are arranged two inwardly inclined depending supports 6 and 6 which rest against the wall below the window opening. The supports 66 may be braced by crossed strip members '7 and 7 if desired and thereby give the construction more solid condition, Attached intermediate 7 Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 135,270.
the ends of the working surface 5 and in vertical respect thereto are strut members 8 and'S which are secured at their lower ends-to the inclined supports 6 and 6.
Strips 9, 10, 11 and 12 are arranged trans- I versely and secured to the'members 66 and 8-8 and they extend slightly beyond said members and the board 5 to form supports for steps 13, 13, 14 and 15. In addition to the fastening of the strip 12 by means of nails or the like clips 16 and 16 are arranged to embrace the same as a safe guard against displacement.
Adjacent the lower ends of the supports 6 and 6. are apertures 17 and 17 arranged to receive a rod 18 which extends beyond the sides of the supports. By this construction the support will be maintained in its proper position by the rod engaging the 1 wall should there be an opening directly below the window.
Arranged adjacent the sides and the inner end of the main working surface 5 are longitudinal slots 19 and 19. On the under siderof the board and transversely thereof is asecuring member 20 provided on one of its faces with a notched portion 21, which is adapted to fit snugly the projecting por tion of the sill, but should the sill be too thick or thin the opposite side of the mem her is used. This side is provided with a plurality of biting teeth 22 which are adapted to embed themselves into the woodwork. For securely holding the securing member 20 in its adjusted position the bolt members 23 and 23ware employed, these in turn are fastened by winged nuts 24 and 24'. The cross strip 5' is added to the outer end of the board 5 simply to strengthen the latter.
In order that the operator may attain a higher working surface than that presented from the main working surface a stand 25 may be secured tothe upper surface of 5 by bolt and nut members 26-26 and 2727 respectively.
In the modified form as illustrated in Fig. 4 wherein is shown a balcony there may be employed a plurality of window supports I may change the specific arrangement of the parts Without in any Way departing from the spirit and scope of my invention.
What I claim is:
A WlIlClOW stand comprising a main Working surface, a pair of inwardly inclined supports secured to and depending from the outer end of said surface, struts secured to said working surface and said supports, and gripping means secured, to the opposite end of said Working surface said gripping means adapted to sustain the main working surface in horizontal position, transverse strips secured to the supports and the struts and extending beyond the sides thereof and steps secured to and arranged transversely of the extended portions of said strips.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
FREDERICK ROTTI.
