Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed March 21; 1916. Serial No. 85,560.
To all lwhom t may concern Be it lrnown that I, VICTOR -GoLDBnRGER,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cigar-Tips, of
v which the following is a'speciiication.
My invention relates to improvements 1nv cigar tips, the primary object of the invention being to provide a generally improved cigar tip through the medium of an improved reinforced andA anchored tubular stem or tip insert, the latter being preferably formed of a single ojr suitable'length of tough resilient material, vsuch as a goose quill, or the like, of suitable length, such tubular stem or insert being provided with a suitable reinforcingbeading at the mouth and extending flush with the vtip portion of the cigar, thereby eliminating the necessity of first cutting thel tip off of the cigar in the usual manner preparatory to smoking, and not only improving the draft and out in theappendedl claims.
smoking qualities of the cigar but also reinforcing and improving the tip of the same, as well as.` generally improving the cigar as a whole, and 'resulting-in considerable economy both in the manufacture and in the use.
The improved tubular stem or insert .isf preferably applied or embodledln the tip portion of the cigar durin the. process of its manufacture and is pro ided with suit able anchoring and tip protecting means as will hereinafter more fully appear.
With thel above mentioned and other ends" in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement.
5, a view of aI modified form of same.
Flg. 6, a view of a further modified form of same.
Fig. 7, a View of a still further modified form of same.
Similar numerals .of reference designate like .parts throughout all the 'figures of the drawings.
The cigarl may lbe of any suitable and convenient form and the improved tubular stem or insert is preferably inserted or embodied in the tip portion la thereofduring the process of forming or manufacturing the cigar.
The improved stem or insert 2 is preferably formed of tough resilient material,
such as a` suitable length of goose quill, such material having been found to be admirably adapted for this purpose and such tubular stem or insert .is preferably reinforced and anchored within the tip portion 1a of the cigar by" having its marginal edges at one end outwardly curved and flattened with`the raw edges spaced inwardly forming a flattened marginal tip beading 2a, the folded or bent over portion of the latter extending flush withand said raw edges being covered and protected by the tip portion of the cigar, vsaid tip beading 2a not only servingto protect the tongue of the- 'user but also serving to protect and reinforce the eXtreme tip portion of the cigar. The tip beading 2al also servesto reinforce the marginal or tip portion of the stem 2, and serves furtherY to anchor the stem or insert 2j as against inward longitudinal movement within the-cigar tip. f
l As a further means of anchoring the tubular stem or linsert 2 withinthe tip portion of the cigar the -inner 4or opposite end' of the stem l2 may be provided with suitable anchoring means, such, forexample, as the `inner or anchor beading 2*?,1shown'in Fig.
51of the drawings, and formed'in a manner similar to that shown in Figs. l, 2 and 4:'
of the drawings, or if desired, such anchoring means may comprise a plurallty of longivshown in Fig. 6 of the drawings, said anchor tongues 2c` being preferably slightly spaced apart, as shown. `A still further form of anchoring means may comprise a plurality or series of anchor openings 2d, as shown Patented Febf2ff, 191'?,4
r tudinally extending anchor tongues 2c as Iin Fig. 7 .of the drawings, such anchor openings, in this instance, yalso serving asv inlet portscommunicating with the adjacent parts of the cigar.
The tubular stem or insert 2 is preferably flattened as shown most clearly in. Fig. 2 of the drawings.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the operation and advantages of my invention will be readily understood.
Having tnusdescribed some of the embodiments of myinvention, without having attempted to set forth all the forms in which it may be made, or all the modes of its use,
what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is,-
1. In a cigar, the combination with a cigar tip, of a cigar tip reinforcing tube formed of a goose-quill having one end turned outwardly into a reinforcing flattened tip beading, the raw edge of the latter extending inwardly and being covered and protected by-the cigar tip.
2. In a cigar, the combination with the tip portion thereof; of a reinforced 1goose quill stem mounted therein andhaving an outwardly curled marginal tip beading eX- tending flush therewith and having the raw edge of the tip beading covered by said tip portion of the cigar.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
