MINE-CAP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 27, 1917.
Application filed August 2, 1916. Serial N 0. 112,780.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Gnonen ADAMS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dartmoor, in the county of Barbour and State of West Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mine- Caps, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain improvements in caps and has relation more particularly to a device of this general character especially designed and adapted for use in mines and wherein electric equipment is employed; and it is an object of the invention to provide a device of this general character having novel and improved means whereby the same serves to effectively protect the wearer against injury in the event the cap should come in contact with any of the charged wires comprised in the electrical equipment.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved cap whereby certain important ad vantages are attained and, the device is rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, all as will be hereinafter -more fully set forth;
The novel features of the invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to described the same with reference to the accompanying drawing, wherein is shown a view partly in elevation and partly in section illustrating a cap constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention.
As disclosed in the accompanying drawing, I have illustrated a cap especially designed for use by a miner and as set forth in the drawing, 1 denotes the body of the cap of conventional design and preferably formed of water-proof canvas, and arranged within the cap is the lining 2 of non conductive material and preferably rubber. It is to be particularly noted that the lining 2 is secured to the body 1 adjacent the free margins thereof, as indicated at 4, and that the remaining portion of the lining is free from the body.
3 denotes the vizor of the cap which is also formed of non-conductive material and preferably leather or hard rubber.
5 denotes the lamp holder which is also formed of non-conductive material and is secured to the vizor 3 through the medium of the rivet 6 or the like at its lower end while the upper end of the holder is secured to the top portion of the body 1 through the medium of the rivet 7 or the like. It
is to be particularly noted that the rivet 7 a is secured only to the body 1 so that the lining 2 will protect the wearer against any electrical contact which may be had with the rivet.
From the foregoing description, it is thought to be obvious that a cap constructed in accordance with my invention is of an extremely simple and compartively inexpensive nature and is particularly Well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled, and it will also be obvious that my inven tion is susceptible of some change and modification without material departure from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement it and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice, except as hereinafter claimed.
I claim:
As a new article ofmanufacture, a cap, a rubber lining for said cap, a vizor of nonconducting material secured to the cap, and a lamp holder of non-conducting material secured to the vizor and to the cap, the connection between the holder and the cap being at the crown of the cap and independent of the lining, said lining closely conforming to the configuration of the cap and extending to the free edges of the cap, said lining and cap being secured one to the other adjacent the free edges of the cap, the remaining portions of the lining being free.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE ADAMS.
Witnesses: J. A. LAREE,
J. K. BLATCHFORD.
