Be it known that I, MICHAEL DALY, of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Extractor- Covers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and to the reference-numerals marked thereon.

My invention has for its object to provide a cover that is applicable to casings or receptacles, and relates more particularly to the type of cover employed for extracting machines, which are used in connection with laundry apparatus for removing moisture from wet clothing. One of the purposes of the invention is to provide a cover that can be manufactured at a reasonable c0st,'and is of minimum weight so as to facilitate operating the machine when it is necessary to open and close the cover. A further ob ject of my improvement is to afford a construction that is rigid, strong and durable, and which will permit the operator to view the interior of the machinethrough the cover when the latter is closed. To these and other ends the invention consists in certain improvements and combinations of parts, all as will be hereinafter more fully explained, the novel features being pointed out in the claim at the end of the specification.

Various attempts have been made heretofore to devise a construction for this pur pose but without much success, owing to the fact that it has been found difficult to provide a cover with transparent portions, through which to afford a view of the interior of the machine, and at the same time retain the strength and rigidity that is necessarily required in orderto withstand comprises a circular body portion which includes a rim A that may be provided with a series of openings a. E designates a flexible sheet or disk of suitable transparent material, such as mica, which is coextensive with and rests upon the flange (1- Arranged adjacent to the transparent disk E is a metallic or other rigid plate or disk F, which overlies the disk E and serves to protect and brace the latter. The disks E and F are held in place by attaching means, preferably in the form of rivets extending through the flange O, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4:. In order to afford a view of the interior of the receptacle or casing, the rigid plate F is provided with one or more openings G arranged between the center and edge of the plate, but leaving substantial portions at the center and edge intact, so that it can be readily attached to the flexible transparent disk. The disks are also secured together at the center, as by means of a rivet 0, suitable washers e being preferably disposed between the disks and the rivet heads.

The construction affords a transparent portion for the cover, which transparent portion is constructed in such a manner as to afl'ord a surface that is as strong and rigid as though constructed from an integral solid can be opened and Figs. 1 and 2 piece of metal. The entire structure is light affording a simple and durable combination, the parts of which can be readily assembled and united so as to accomplish all the purposes contemplated by a cover of this character.

I claim as my invention:

A cover including a circular body portion terminating in an inwardly directed flange, a transparent disk of flexible material supported on said flange, a rigid disk located adj acent the transparent disk securing means passing through the disks and flange and holding said parts together, and cen trally arranged means holding the two disks together, the rigid disk having a plurality of openings therein located between its cen ter and its periphery and exposing the trans parent disk.
