B y I 'afwgw WI T NE88E8:
CYRUS M. HALL, OF HOUSTON, TEXAS.
CONTAINER.
Application filed March 8, 1915.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CYRUS M. I-IALL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Houston, in the county of Harris and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Containers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in containers, and has par- 7 ticular relation to such containers as are adapted'to be used in the shipment of eggs.
The object of the invention is to provide a device of the character described, wherein separate compartments are provided for receiving the individual eggs and comprehends also, the provision of resilient or yieldable seats, by means of which the eggs are supported in their respective compartments.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention has particular relation to certain novel features of construction, arrangement of parts, and use, an example of which is given in this specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1, shows an isometric view of the device.
Fig. 2, shows a transverse sectional view.
Fig. 3, shows a plan view, with the covering removed.
Fig. 4, shows an end elevation.
Fig. 5, shows a side elevation.
Fig. 6, shows a longitudinal sectional view.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings, wherein like numerals of reference designate similar parts in each of the figures, the numeral 1, refers to the bottom of the container upstanding from which are the ends 2, 2, and the sides 3, 3. A horizon tal partition 4, is provided which is spaced a short distance from the bottom 1, and whose edges are secured to the respective ends 2, 2, and sides 3, 3. A covering 5, is provided, whose sides 6, 6, are turned downwardly and fit within the respective sides 3, 3, extending to the partition 4. This cover- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 2'7, 1917.
Serial No. 12,781.
' ing is separated into compartments by the lengthwise partitions 7, 7 and the transverse partitions 8, 8, 8, each compartment being of a size to receive an egg, which fits snugly therein. Underneath each compartment the partition 4, has cross slits out therethrough, forming tongues, as 9, whose ends are free and support the egg above, forming a yieldable seat therefor, which lessens the liability of the egg being broken in shipping. To the bottom near the respective sides, the tying cords 10, 10, are secured, whose free ends may be brought around the container and secured together, as shown in Fig. 1.
What I claim is:
1. A container formed of a bottom, side and end walls, a horizontal partition there in, a covering therefor whose sides are turned downwardly and fit within the sides of the container and extend to said partition, lengthwise and transverse partitions fixed to and depending from the covering and forming compartments, said horizontal partition having resilient seats alined under the respective compartments.
2. A container formed of a bottom, side and end walls, a horizontal partition therein, a covering therefor whose sides are turned downwardly and fit within the sides of the container and extend to said partition, lengthwise and transverse partitions fixed to and depending from the covering and forming compartments, said horizontal partition having resilient seats alined under the respective compartments, said seats comprising tongues formed by cutting cross slits through the partition under each compartment.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CYRUS M. HALL.
