ing at Grafton, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Water- Heaters, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to the means for supporting the coils in a coil heater. It has for its primary objects the provision of a cheap simple construction which will securely hold the coils against sagging and warping, and the provision of a construction of the character specified in which the coils can be easily removed and replaced inthe heater. One embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein- Figure 1 is a face View of the heater with the front hinged section removed, Fig. 2 is a plan view of one of the supporting rings, and Fig. 3 is a vertical section through a portion. of the rear side of the heater.
The water container consists of the series of sets of double spiral coils 1, 2, and 3 of well known construction having the inlet 4 and the outlet 5. This container is carried in the casing 6 in the lower portion of which is the battery of gas burners 7. The front half of the casing is not shown, such half being. hinged in theusual way to the lugs 8 and 9.
Secured to the casing are the rings 10, 10, 10, preferably of cast iron, one of such rings being shown in plan view in Fig. 2. Each of these rings is provided with a bottom ledge 11 upon which the central turnof the set of coils rests and is also provided with three downwardly and inwardly inclined fingers 12, 13, and 14;. The fingers serve to support the lower turns of each of the sets of coils. The rings themselves are detachably secured in osition by means of stove boltsv 15 (Fig. 3 there being one bolt for each ring at the rear side thereof. The sides of each ring are supported by lugs 16 cast upon the inner surface of the casing 6, so that when the securing-bolts are removed the rings can be removed from the casing by sliding them to the front. i

to sag, are supported throughout a large portion of their length, and the fingers 12, 13, and 14 form a suflicient support for the smaller turns. The rings also prevent the sets of coils from twisting or warping with respect to each other. At the same time the construction is a simple and inexpensive one, and the coils can be very easily assembled and disassembled. If desired, and in order to make the coils still more secure'against warping, wires 17 can be passed through the slots 18 (Fig. 2) of the fingers 18 and 14 and around any desired number of turns of the coils. Other advantages incident to the Com struction will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art.
