STOVE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 2,1913.
Application filed September 6, 1912. Serial No. 718,939.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, IVALTER E. HUENE- FELD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stoves; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in stoves and more particularly to the top for stoves employing liquid or gaseous fuel,- the object of the invention being to so construct the stove top that the spiders on which the cooking utensils are supported over the burners shall be located in close proximity to each other and prevented from displacement in any direction and so that said spiders can be disposed close together and permit the passage of air currents under cooking utensils which might be so placed as to overlap two or more of said spiders.
' \Vith this object in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts as hereinafter set forth and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a plan View of the stove top with the spiders removed. Fig. 2 is a similar view with the spiders in place; Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line afl-w of Fig. 1, and Fig. 4 is a sectional view on the line g of Fig. 2.
1 represents a stove top which may be conveniently made of sheet metal and pr0- vided at its edges with depending flanges 2 which serve to assist in strengthening said top. The top 1 is constructed with an elongated depression 5 which may be conveniently made by stamping. The depressed portion 5 is provided with a plurality of openings 6 (which are preferably made circular in form) so spaced apart that they will be located directly over the burners of the stove. The web portions 7 between the openings 6 will serve to strengthen the depressed portion of the stove top and will also form supports for the side portions of spiders 8,the front and rear portions of said spiders rest-ing upon the depressed part accidentally falling through one of the stove top in front and in rear of the burner openings 6.
The spiders 8 are made rectangular in form and are so placed within the depressed portion of the stove top that their adjacent edges will abut against each other and so that they will completely fill the said depressed portion of the stove top,the upper edges of the ribs of said spiders being approximately in the plane of the stove top and in a plane above the frame portions of said spiders.
Vith the construction and arrangement of parts above described, displacement of the spiders or any of them will be prevented; each spider will be provided with adequate support, and possibility of a spider of the burner openings will be obviated. As the upper edges of the ribs of the spiders are slightly above the upper edges of the frames of the spiders and as the several spiders are so disposed that they abut one against another, air currents may pass from one spider to the next and under the bottom of a cooking utensil which might be placed so as to overlap portions of two or more spiders. With such arrangement I am enabled to utilize all of the heat generated from each of the burners or from all of them as the several spiders are not isolated from each other.
Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Lettors-Patent, is:
In a stove, the combination of a top having a single elongated rectangular depression provided in its bottom with a plurality of burner openings, all portions of the bottom of said depression being in the same plane and unobstructed throughout, and a plurality of rectangular ribbed spiders reinovably seated within said depression in the stove top and filling said depression, said spiders abutting one against another and the ribs of said spiders having their upper edges in a plane above the frame portion.
In testimony whereof, I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
WALTER E. HUENEFELD.
