ARTICLE-HOLDER.
To all whom 2'25 may concern:
Be it known that LFnnnnnrox B. MEYER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore, btate of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Article-Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to article holders, and more particularly to a device designed for holding the free ends of fourin-hand neckties, although it is not necessarily limited to such use as the same may be used to advantage in draping portieres.
Another object is the provision of a simple and eliicient article holder including essen-' tially a band or strip of flexible material having the free ends suitably formed whereby the strip may be engaged and secured upon a shirt button, tack or similar device.
I With these and other objects in View, the invention consists in arrangement and formation of parts as will be hereinafter specifically described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying draw- 7 ing, in which:
Figure 1 represents a plan view of the blank from which the holder is formed.
Fig. 2 represents a perspective view of the, article holder construction to for use in securing or holding the free ends of a necktie, and
Fig. 3 represents a perspective view of the holder constructed for use in supporting or draping portieres.
Referring to the drawing in detail, wherein similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the numeral 5 indicates a relatively thin narrow strip of celluloid or similar flexible material which may be formed in any desired shape and provided with any preferred type of design or configuration printed, embossed or otherwise marked thereon. Lateral extensions 6 are formed upon one longitudinal edge of the strip 5 at the opposite ends thereof and the adjacent edges 1 of the extensions are formed with slits or recesses 7 of a width approximately equal to or slightly larger than the shank of a col- Jar button, or a group of threads securing a button upon a shir The outer extremi- Specification of Letters Patent.
especially the novel construction,
adapt it Serial No. 37,909.
ties of the recesses are enlarged laterally, as indicated at 8, to insure against accidental di'sengagement of the ends of the holder from the button or otherwhich it isengaged.
The body or medial portion of the strip 5 is bent or turned, as indicated at 9 in Fig. 2, so as to overlap the ends thereof which carry the lateral extensions 6.
In use, the necktie is engaged between the needial .and end portions of the holder and tie shirt buttons 10, as clearly illustrated in Fig. 2, thus reliably securing the holder in position upon the shirt of the wearer and simultaneously securing the necktie in position. If preferred, tongues or teeth 11 may be struck out from the body of the holder for engaging or securing the tie or other article against accidental removal from the holder.
Referring to the type of the invention illustrated'in Fig. 3,the strip or body 5 of the holder is of adequate width, thickness and length to encircle and secure a portire, lace curtain or the like, and the holder is secured in position upon a door frame or other object 12 by engaging the recessed ends thereof under the head 13 of atack or nail.
WVhat I claim is:
1. An article holder formed of flexible material including a flat body, and lateral extensions at the ends jecting in the same direction from one longitudinal edge thereof, said extensions havedges and 111g recesses formed in theinner the longi- 7 having vertical recesses formed in the edges thereof and also having horizontal recesses communicating at their inner ends with the vertical recesses and their outer ends extending through the vertical edges of the extensions.
Patented Feb. 20, 1917.
device upon of said body and pro- '65 recesses 7 are slipped under one of the I 'In testimony whereof I affix my signature I in presence of two witnesses.
