Description
UNITED STATEs PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY CAMPBELL, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN LAMP-BRACKETS OR SUPPORTS.
Speci'i'ication forming part of Letters Patent No. 121,583, dated December 5, 1871; antedated November 20, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY CAMPBELL, of the city and county of San Francisco, State of California, have invented an Improvement in Lamp- Supports; and I do hereby declare the following description and accompanying drawing are sufficient to enable any person skilled in the art or science to which it most nearly appertains to make and use my said invention or improvements without further invention or experiment.
My invention relates to an improved lamp-support which is intended more particularly for supporting and securing lamps upon sewingmachine tables; and it is fully represented in the accompanying drawing, to which I shall refer in the following description.
at represents a metal plate having an edge plate, I), which is made to fit the molding or other edge of the table 0. This end plate extends down below the top of the table, as shown. Upon a level with the under side of the top of the table is a plate, d, which projects under it from the edge plate b parallel with the top plate a. A plate, (2, one end of which is formed into an upward-projecting claw, has its opposite end hinged or otherwise loosely attached to the lower edge of the plate b, so as to extend out below and beyond the plate cl. A thumb-screw, f, passes up through the claw-plate e and through the plate d, so as to draw the outer end of the plate 6 up against the under side of the table and press the claw to the wood of the top, and thus bind the clamp to the table. A standard, m, is secured to the upper plate a, in the top of which is a socket suitable for receiving the stem g of the lampsupporter or bracket. A set-screw, k, serves to hold the stem in the socket in whatever position it may be turned. At the upper extremity of the stem g is fixed the lamp-holder h. This lamp-holder consists of a small metal disk, 45, which is secured at its center to the stem g, and has two or more radiating arms, j, the outer ends of which are turned up and slightly curved inward so as to form springs or clasps to receive the lamp.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,
A lamp-support, consisting of clamp composed of the top plate a, edge plate b, under plate (I, and hinged claw-bar e, and of the socketed standard in, standard g, and the diski having the curved arms j, all constructedand arranged substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In witness that the above-described invention is claimed by me I have hereunto set my hand and seal.
HENRY CAMPBELL. [I.. s.] Witnesses:
GEO. H. STRONG, BENJN. C. FABRE.
