1. SHELLEY.v SLOW FEEDING SANITARY TUB FOR STOCK.
APPLICATION FILEO APR24, |916- Patented Feb. 13, 1917 gfx/mento@ @Clou/wg JAMES T. SHELLEY, OF LGUISVILLE, KENTUCKY.
i SLOW-FEEDING SANITARY TUB FOR STOCK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 1e, 1917.
application rues April ze, 191e. serial Neeaisl.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Janus T. SHELLEY, a citizen of the TJnited States, residing at Louisville, county of Jefferson, and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Slow-Feeding Sain italv Tubs for Stock, of which the following is aV specification.
This invention relates to a slowfeeding sanitary tub for stock.
Among the objects ofmy invention are the provision, lirst, of an improved sanitary feed tub which will deliver the feed t'o the feeding space at a relatively slow rate; second, a feed tub having an improved construction adapting it to prevent the feed from being splashed or thrown out by the animal, thus preventing waste; third, a feed tub which will be constructed so as to carry out the foregoing objects and also adaptable for quick and easy flushing and cleansing and will be readily portable so that it may be removed from the stall andhung in the open air to keep it sanitary; fourth, improvements adapting the tub to supply the requisite quantity of feed to the animal and yet, prevent the latter from nosing out the feed or injuring himself when feeding.
My improved sanitary slow feeding tub is preferably of circular form adapting it to be nested in a shipping case so that Va number of these tubs may be readily shipped in compact form, and it is adapted to be put up in any part of the stall and readily removed therefrom. Harness snaps may constitute the means for securing the tub in position when resting on any support, adapting it for feeding purposes and bythe disconnection thereof the tub may be readily removed for use in another stall or to be cleansed.
A practical embodiment of the invention comprises a circular tub having an annular internal shelf or flange provided with openings, preferably where the flange or shelf joins the inner wall of the tub, and a selffeeding reservoir or hopper for delivering the feed to the interior of the tub, as hereinafter set forth and pointed out in the appended claim, but as am aware that modifications may be resorted to, the disclosure of the invention is to be considered as illustrative, rather than restrictive, of the scope thereof.
In the accompanying drawings.:
.Figure l is a perspective;
Fig. Q, a plan View;l
Fig. 3, a vertical section taken through the feed hopper or reservoir; v
Fig. l, an enlarged detail section showing the knob on the lidof the feed hopper; and
Fig.V 5, an enlarged detail section vof the flange.vv Y e The body or tub l is preferably of circular form and is made of galvanized sheet metal provided with handles 2 by which it may be carried about, hung up to air, or connected to any suitable fastenings, such as harness snaps to hold the feed tub on any suitable support when being used.
Secured to the inside of the wall of the tub l at a point preferably a few inches below the upper edge thereof, is a substantially annular shelf or flange 3 which has an angular portion s by which it is secured by rivets 5, and also by soldering if desired, to the tub l. The inner edge of the shelf or flange is formed into a bead 6 which encompasses a wire 7. At suitable intervals, the part l and the shelf or flange 3 are provided with notches 8.
The feed hopper or reservoir 9 is provided with an inclined self-feeding bottom l0 leading to an outlet 11 which is adapted r angular portions 17 which may be soldered or riveted te the feed boX.
Preferably, all of the parts of the device are of galvanized metal so that rusting or corrcding of any part thereof will not occur, and enabling all parts to be kept cleanly and sanitary. The animal can only feed by inserting his muzzle through the opening in the shelf or flange 3 and cannot splash or blow out the feed on the feeding space or bottom 12 as the flange or shelf 3 constitutes a dash or baffle which will return the feed to the bottom of the tub if it is blown or forced upwardly. The reservoir or hopper 9 constitutes a gravity or automatically feeding device Which delivers small quantities of the feed on the bottom of the tub l, thus preventing too rapid feeding of the animal. The rounded or beaded inner edge G of the shelf or flange 3 prevents injury to the muzzle of the animal.
The tub being readily portable, may be moved from place to place, hung up to air or to drain and otherwise conveniently handled. To cleanse the. feeding tub, it may be flushed With Water which will drain off through the openings S, rendering cleansing and drying very easy. Y
laving thus described my invention, what l. claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isz- A portable feed tub for stock comprising a body, a flange contained Within,l and con* tinuously joined at its outer edge to, the body below the upper edge thereof, said llange being provided with openings at intervals in the region of the juncture thereof With the Wall of the body, and a feed hopper contained Within the body and provided'with a closure at its top, a self-feed ing bottom and a mouth in its inner face adapted todeliver the feed to the central portion of the bottom of the body below the iange, the ends of said flange being joined to the opposite sides of said hopper.
In testimony whereof, I hereunto affix my signatllre.
