To all whom z' may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY BUDD, a4 citizen of the United States, residing at Independence, in the county of Montgomery and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsin Clothes-wringers; and I do declarethe following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
y invention relates to clothes wringers, and has for its principal object to provide a `wringer which will effectively remove water from articles passed therethrough, and accomplishing this object by improved details of structure comprising means for urging the ordinary horizontal wringer rollers toward each other and including vertical rollers for engaging the articles vertically at the ends of the horizontal rollers.

Each of the side standards 2 is provided at the upper end with a vertical slot 4 and slidably mounted in 5; the said blocks being provided with side guide lugs 6 which travel in channels 7 the axle 26 of a roller 20.

Y In order to tension the rollers toward each other I have provided, in each side standard, an upper land a lower coiled spring 12- 13, the lower. spring at each side being projected a greater part' of its length within: a vertically bored socket 14 extending from the bottom of the slot 4'; the socket being slightly greater in diameter than the spring containedtherein, and having a port 15 at its base, so that water may be drained therefrom. The upper end of the spring 13 forms a yielding support for the bearing block 5 which carries the lower roller 9.
The upper tensioning spring 12 is seated on the upper bearing 5 and thereagainst by a screw 15 which is threaded through the upper cross bar 16 and engages a cross plate 17 against which the upper end of the spring 12 bears, so that the spring may be adjusted by manipulation of the screw. v Y.
As the articles fed to the wringer are usually thicker at the center of the mass than at lthe edges, I provide for compressing the relatively thin edges to insure uniformv wringing by equipping the wringer with a secondary set of rollers 20, which are supported horizontally within upper and lower guide members 21 and 22.
lThe upper guide 21 preferably comprises a horizontal tube having end supports 24 by which it is secured to the side standards 2, and having, in its under face near each end, elongated slots 25 within which is projected The lower support, 22 comprises a short length of tubing, at each end of the wringer, arranged so as not to interfere with articles passing into th ported from the standards 2 in the same manner as the upper member; the members 22 having slots 27 in their upper faces for receiving the lower end of the aXles 26.

It will he seen that with construction, the eiciency of the wringer is increased by the increase of resiliency of the rollers, and that it is less apt to damage buttons, or the like, or to sustain damage itself than is a wringer having a single yieldable roller.
Having thus described my invention, what l claim'a's new therein, and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is
1. A wringer comprising a pair of wringer rollers, a second rpair of rollers arranged crosswise of the first, and means for yieldingly urging the rollers in pair toward each other.
