JAMES ALBQNNER, OF SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA.
TOILET-SEAT.
Application filed September 30, 1915.
To aZZ whom it may concern Be it known that I, James A. BONNER, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Diego, in the county of San Diego and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toilet-Seats, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to toilet seats which combine an auxiliary seat for children with the ordinary one for adults and the objects of my invention are; first, to provide a comfortable toilet seat for children; second, to provide a double combined toilet seat, one for use by children and the other by adults; third, to provide an adjustable foot rest in connection with the portion for childrens use, this making it applicable to different styles of toilets; and fourth, toprovide such a device that is simple and economical of construction, durable and compact when in the various positions.
l i ith these and other objects in view as will appear hereinafter, my invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter described in detail and particularly set forth in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the characters of reference thereon which form a part of this specification, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a toilet showing the ordinary seat mounted thereon and showing the lowered position of the auxiliary childrens seat by dotted lines and its raised position by solid lines, and Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a fragmentary portion of the foot rest.
Similar characters of reference refer to similar parts throughout the views.
The ordinary seat part 1, the auxiliary childrens seat part 2, and foot rest 3 constitute the principal parts of my toilet seat structure.
The ordinary seat part 1 is mounted on the top of the toilet in the ordinary manner by means of the hinges l and it is provided with a suitable sized hole 1 for adults. Hinged to this piece 1, at its back side, is the piece 2 so that it is adapted to fold down onto said piece 1 as shown by dotted lines in Fig. 1 of the drawing or be raised up, in position as shown by solid lines in said Fig. 1. This auxiliary seat portion 2 is provided with a smaller hole 2 suitable for children and mounted on the sides are lugs 2 upon Specification of Letters Eatent.

which are pivotally mounted the arms 3" upon the extended ends of which is mounted the foot rest 3. This foot rest 3 is provided with a channel lug 3 in which the piece 3 is adapted to be moved back and forth, it being held in its varied positions by means of the wing screw 3, however, this is only one form of adjustment as it is obvious different structures may be used for adjusting the piece 3. The adjustment of the piece 3 provides for the proper position of the rest 3 with different makes and styles of toilets and different sized children.
Though I have shown and described a particular construction, combination and arrangement of parts, I do not wish to be limited to this particular construction, combination and arrangement but desire to in elude in the purview of my invention, the construction, combination and arrangement, substantially as set forth in the appended claims.
It is obvious that with this construction, there is provided a combination seat that is suitable for adults or children and provid ing comfort for either: that the device is simple and economical of construction, durable, sanitary and will not readily get out of order.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. In a toilet seat, the combination of an ordinary orconventional seat member, another seat member hinged thereto adapted to fold over the same provided with a smaller hole suitable for children and a foot rest pivotally mounted on said second seat member adapted to be carried back by said seat member out of the way when said second seat member is not in use.
2. In a toilet seat, the combination of an ordinary or conventional seat member, another seat member hinged thereto adapted to fold over the same provided with a small hole suitable for children, a foot rest pivotally mounted on said second seat member adapted to be carried back by said seat member out of the way when said second seat member is not in use and means for adjusting the position of said foot rest relatively to said second seat member.
3. In a toilet seat, the combination of an ordinary or conventional seat member, another seat member hinged thereto adapted to fold over the same provided with a small tively to said second seat member comprishole suitable for children, a foot rest pivotbers and a member slidable relatively to said ally mounted on said second seat member board With one end adapted to rest against 10 adapted to be carried back by said seat the toilet seat body.
