Description

P. SCUBELEK. swonn AND GUARD ATTACHMENT Fon PlsToLs,
APPLICATION FILED OCT. I9. 19H5. 1,214,834. Patented Feb. 6,1917.
llllllllllll pia EOTR SCUBELEK, F JLMINGTOBL DELANARE..
Sil/'ORD AND GUARD ATTACHEEENT FOR PISTOLS.
Application le October 19, i916.
To @ZZ whom t may concern.'
Be it known that l', Fiore SCUBELEK, a subject or' the Emperor or" Austria-Hungary, residing at llilmington, in the county ot' NenY Castle and State ot Delaware, have invented certa in new and useful Improvements in Snford and Guard Attachments for Pis tol-s7 of Which the following is a specification.
Zhis invention relates to new and useful improvements in svvord and guard attachments for pistols.
The primary object ot' the invention is the provision oi a detachable sword member for automatic pistols provided With means performing the dual function of band guard and nmgazine retainer for the pistol.
.fr 'further object ot' the device is the arrangement of a blade detachably arranged un in a pistol .vhereloy the stock of the pistol rm a grip portion oit' the hilt of the sword, a swino'irg hand guard being arranged ret il ng the cartridge magazine 1 stol stock.
. rtlier object of the invention is vision ot a ready attachment for a pistol in the term of a blade whereby the pistol tra laf employed either as a sword `i the ordinary manner, the blade velug a* ed torivardly ot the pistol barrel and a shil. ble retaining hand guard being arranged for normally connecting the l L. Q 'L 1. n .IL -I 'l steelt o; the with tie Jlaf e mouncmg n'xember.
or for 1 a side elevation of the device broken avray. is a sectional view taken upon line Fig. 1. an enlarged detail sectional viev.'
on lll-lll of Fig. 1. A a rsuective view oi the positached, and spective view of the spring herewith. i ention comprising an attachment wistols, the same is herein illustrated in connection with a pistol 10` of substantially the usual automatic form having a barrel 11 and stock 12, the cartridge magazine 13 being removably arranged slidaloly Within the said stock and hating a cover plate 14 at the butt o-'tthe latter.
-i bracket 15 is provided having a strap Speceaton of Letters Patent.
Serial N0. 126.5%?.
portion 16 adapted for surrounding the han rel 11 removably secured 'thereto by means of a screw 1'? While a sword or blade 18 is carried by the sail bracket projecting forwardly ot' the muzzle 19 of the. barrel positioned slightly7 therebetvv en.
A curved hand guard'20 is hinged as at 21 to the base ot the bracket 15 having a foot 23 normally arranged in lat engagement with the plate le adapted for retaining the magazine within the pistol stock. rlhe said guard 20 is capable of lateral swinging movements as illustrated in dotted lines in Fig. 2 of the dra yting Wiereby the toot 23 is released from the magazine 13 when it is desired to Withdraw the latter from the stock l2.
in upturned tree end 2l ot the guard 20 normally overlies the rear face of the stock 12 and is provided vvith a normally outwardly projected releasing pin 25. A retaining plate 26 is transversely arranged Within a recess 27 in the rear race of the stock 12, said plate having curved sided ribs 28 spaced from its opposite ends adapted for the seating reception therebetween or the enlarged end 29 of the said guard.
i substantially U shaped .leaf spring 30 is secured uitlin the recess 27 inwardly and in Contact with the plate 28 whereby the said plate is norma ly projected with its outer ends 31 engaging the inner iaces of the stop members 32 overlying the opposite edges oli' the said recess. The plate 2@ is connected to the spring 30 by means of rivets Se passing through slot-s in the opposite end portions of the said spring. il.. helical spring 33 is provided for the pin maintaining the inner end or the pin in contact with the plate 26 when the. guard end 29 is seated upon the plate between the ribs 28 thereof.
The device loeing illustrated in its normal operative position in F ig. l, it Will loe seen that the pistol stoel; 12 may loe grasped by the hand tor shooting the pistol and in which position the blade 1S may loe r adily employed as a sword, the guard 2O protecting the hand and forming with the said Stock 12 a hilt for the sword. The guard 20 also normally positions its foot 23 in restraining engagement vrith the cartridge magazine 13 and is readily releasable by forcing the pin 25 inwardly depressing the plate 2G against the action of the spring 30 thereby allowing a lateral movement ot the head 29 releasing the same from the ribs 28,
'barrel, a hand guard hinged to it being understood that the inner curved end of the pin :25 will ride over the inner curved tace ofthe adjacent rib 28 during such lateral movement. vWhen returning the guard end 29 to its engaging position, the Y same as well as the inner end oi' the pin 25 will ride over the curved outer tace of the adjacent rib 2S thereby depressing the plate 2G allowing` the end 29 to seat upon the plate between the ribs 28 thereot'. `When the toot 23 is positioned as shown in Fig. l, the magazine 13 is retained within the grip l2 but is readily removable when the said guard 2O is swung laterally to its releasing position in either direction. Y
Vhat I claim as new is z l. in attachment for automatic pistols comprising a bracket removably secured to the barrel thereof, a blade carried by the said bracket projecting forwardly of the the said bracket having a toot portion restrainingly positioned adjacent the butt of the pistol when the device is operatively arranged and resilient retaining connections between the Stock oi" the pistol and the extreme end portion of the said guard.
2. An attachment for automatic pistols having a cartridge magazine removable from the butt end oi the stock of the pistol, bracket mounted adjacent the muzzle oithe barrel of the pistol, a blade carried by the said bracket, a combined hand guard and magazine retainer hinged at one end to the said bracket with an enlarged foot portion adjacent its other end normally arranged in contact with the said magazine Within the operative path of movement thereof, Vand spring catch 'connections between the enlarged eXtreme end of the said guard and the stock of the pistol.
Copies of this patent may be obtained for 3. ein .ittaclnnenti'or automatic pistols havingV a cartridge magazine removable from the butt end of the stock of the pistol, a bracket mounted adjacent the muzzle ot the barrel ot the pistol, a blade carried by the said bracket, a combined hand guard and magazine retainer hinged at one end to the said bracket with an enlarged foot portion adjacent its other end normally arranged in contact with the said magazine Vwithin the. operative path of movement thereof, the stock of the pistol having a recess'therein, a curved leall sprlng secured within the said recess, a plate carried by the Y said spring normally projected substantially flush with the adjacent surface ot' the stock and having curved sided spaced transverse ribs adapted for the seating reception or' the said guard end therebetween and a spring pressed depressing pin for the said plate carried by the said guard end.
d. 'fr device of vthe class described comprising in combination with a pistol, a bracket attached thereto, a combined' hand guard and magazine retainer'pivoted at one end to the said bracket extending forwardly 0i the Vstock and spanning the butt of the latter when normally arranged, the said guard having an enlarged 'tree end, the stock ot the pistol having a` recess therein, a curved leai2 spring secured within the said recess, a plate carried by the said spring normally projected substantially flush with the adjacent sui-tace or the stock and having curved sided spaced transverse ribs adapted for the seating reception ot the said guard end'therebetween and a spring pressed depressing pin 'furthe said plate carried by the said guard end.
in testimony whereof l ai'iix my signature.
