Ee it known that l, Seminar, l. Corivrnniv, a citizen of the United States, residing at Herrick, in the county of Shelby and State of Tllinois, have invented certain new and useful lfmprovements in Molds, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain improvements in molds and has relation more particularly to a mold of this general character especially designed and adapted for use in the production of building blocks or the like, and it is an object of the invention to provide a mold having novel and improved means whereby the block or blocks formed therein may be removed with convenience and facility after having become set.
It is also an object of the invention to provide a novel and improved mold whereby blocks of varying lengths and heights may be readily produced and wherein removable cores are employed.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the severalV parts of my improved mold whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device is rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, all as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of the invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, l1 will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure 1 is a view in top plan of a mold constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention; Fig. 2 is a view in end elevation of a mold as herein embodied; TEig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view taken through my mold as herein disclosed with an end face plate in section; Fig. i is a transverse sectional view taken through the device as herein included; Fig. 5 is a fragmentary view in top plan illustrating the use of a division plate; Fig. 6 is a view in perspective of one form of partition plate as herein embodied; and FiO. 7 is a view in perspective of a second form of partition plate as herein disclosed.

jacent one end the upstanding end plate 2 which is maintained or braced in applied position through the medium of the out waidly directed reinforcing web 3. The opposite end portion of the base or pallet 1 is provided with the longitudinally disposed slot i positioned substantially at the trans verse center of the base or pallet and which is adapted to receive the depending lug 5 carried by the bracing web 6 of the second upstanding end plate 7. By this arrangement it will be perceived that the end plate 7 is capable of adjustment long gitudinall;7 of
the base or pallet l and this adjustment especially is desirable in order to compensate for the end face plate F which may be employed in the making of corner blocks.
S denotes side plates hingedly connected, as at 9, with the longitudinal margins of the base or pallet l and of a width less than the height of the end plates 2 and 7 and each of said end plates is provided at its upper part with a transversely disposed member l0 overlying the upper marginal portions of the side plates 8 when in operative adjustment, and the inner faces of the eX tended portions of the members l0 are provided with the transversely disposed anges or lugs 11 spaced relative to the vertical edges of the end plates 2 anl 7, whereby receiving grooves are provided for the ends of the supplemental side plates l2 when it is desired to make the blocks of increased dimensions. lt will be perceived that the supplemental plates 12 rest directly upon the upper longitudinal edges of the side plates 8 and have their inner faces substantially flush with the inner faces of the plates 8. It is also to be noted that the supplemental plates l2 are provided with the inwardly disposed protuberances 14 which serve to form in the coacting faces of the blocks suitable recesses in order to receive mortar or other binding material when the blocks are set within a wall.
The members lO have pivotally engaged therewith the hook members l5 or the like which are adapted to operatively engage the side plates 8 in order to maintain the same in vertical or operative position against the end plates 2 and 7. lt is also to be noted that each of the side plates S has its outer face provided with the longitudinally disposed reinforcing rib 16.
Removably secured to the opposed faces of the side plates 8 are the cores 17 arranged longitudinally of the plates and in predetermined spaced relation so as to afford therebetween the receiving grooves 18 to accommodate the partition plates 19. It will be perceived that the cores 17 will be of a length in accordance with the size of the blocks to be molded. It will also be noted that the partition plates 19 have their opposite faces provided with the cores 20. As is believed to be obvious to those skilled in the art to which my invention appertains, it will be readily understood that the cores 17 and 20 serve to produce within the side faces and ends of the block suitable air channels or passages or to receive mortar or other binding material when the blocks are set Within a Wall.
Coacting with the outer end of the core 17 adjacent the adjustable end plate 7 is the transversely disposed removable core 21 which is adapted to be employed in the molding of a corner block.
lin the event it should be desired to einploy a dividing plate 22, partition plates 19L may be employed having the cores 20;L thereof separated to afford the receiving` grooves 23 to accommodate the end portions of a dividing plate 22. 1n the production of fence posts, window sills or the like, it will be understood that a dividing plate 22 will be of predetermined length and if necessary will extend entirely between the end plates 2 and 7, and if deemed advisable the cores 17 may be removed. It will be understood that the dividing plate'22 may be of a formation desired as is also true in connection with the 'end face plate F. It will also be understood that the open end of the mold constitutes the outer face of the block or blocks and that any suitable implement may be employed for giving the desired finish to said outer face or faces.
From the foregoing description, it is thought to be obvious that a mold constructed in accordance with my invention is of an extremely simple and comparatively inexpensive nature and is particularly Well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without material depar-V ture from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason l do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice.
l claim:
1. A mold .comprising an elongated pallet, upstanding end plates carried by the pallet, one of said end plates being movable relative to the other, side plates adapted to coact with the pallet and the end plates, removable cores carried by the opposed faces of the side plates, said cores having their opposed ends spaced to afford receiving grooves, partition plates insertible within said grooves, and cores carried by said partition plates.
2. A mold comprising an elongated pallet, upstanding end plates carried by the pallet, one of said end plates being movable relative to the other, side plates adapted to coact with the pallet and the end plates, removable cores carried by the opposed faces of the side plates, said cores having their opposed ends spaced to afford receiving grooves, partition plates insertible within said grooves, cores carried by said partition plates, said cores being spaced to afford receivingl grooves, and dividing plates adapted to be disposed longitudinally of the pallet, the ends of said dividing'plates being insertible within the receiving grooves afforded by the cores of the partition plates.
