Description

FRANK CLINTON, or MILAN,v INDIANA.
sILo.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented aan. 3o, isis.
Application led April 3, 1914. Serial No. 829,297.'
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, FRANK CLINTON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Milan, in .the county of Ripley and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Silos; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a silo, and has for its object to provide new and useful iinprovements in the construction thereof.
In thel accompanying drawings, wherein is shown an approved embodiment of the invention, Figure 1 is a fragmentary perspective view of a silo, illustrating the means of securing a door thereto. Fig. 2 is a fragmentary vertical sectional view of the same, Fig. 3 is a fragmentary horizontal sectional view illustrating the door in a closed position, and
Fig. 4 is a fragmentary vertical sectional view illustrating the door 1n an opened position.
Referring in detail to the drawings, the
- numeral 1 indicates a portion of a silo, having a doorway 2 formed therein, the walls of which are beveled inwardly as illustrated at 3 to receive a door 4tliat has outwardly beveled edges 5 for coperation with the beveled walls 3 of the doorway.
A curved bracket 6 is secured to the outer face of the door 4 at its free ends and is formed centrally with an apertured enlargement 7 having interior screw threads adapted the thread formed on a A'closing and lockbolt 8 carrying a head 9.
and adjustably seing lever 10 is pivotally cured in spaced parallel relation to the door 4 by the bolt 8 extending therethrough and is formed with an angularly directed end 11. Cleats 12 and 13y are secured to the silo 1 on opposite sides of theY doorway 2 and are curved similar to the bracket 6 and adapted to carry the closing and locking lever 10 outwardly as it is moved thereover to firmly seat the door 4. The cleat 13 is formed with a notch 14 in which one end of the lever 10 is adapted to seat as the opposite end is carried outwardly upon the face of the cleat 12 to lock the door in closed position.
VThe parallel ends of Ushapedmembers 16 are secured in the wall of the silo 1 and the web portions thereof provide ladder rounds. The members 16 are preferably arranged on the wall of the silo in the vertical plane of the door 4, whereby the closing and locking lever lO'may be used as rounds and one of said members 16 is arranged directly above the door 4, as illustrated in Fig. 1, so that the door may be moved inwardly and given a quarter revolution to uncover the doorway 2 in the wall of the silo and be supported in this position by swinging the lever 10 to vertical position and engages the angular ends l1 thereon over the web portion of the adjacent U-shaped member 16 as clearly illustrated in Fig. 4. lhen closing and locking the door, the lever 10 is swung to an inclined position so as to engage the angular end 11 thereof with the outer surface of the wall of the silo at a point adjacent the cleat 13, and then by pulling outwardly upon the free end of the lever, the door 2O is firmly seated in the doorway 2. The closing and locking lever is subsequently swung to a hori- Zontal position to engage the cleats 12 and 13 and thus rigidly securing the door in closed position.
What I claim is In combination, a silo having a vertically elongated opening therein, a U-shaped member secured above said opening, an inwardly opening closure for said opening, aclosing y and locking lever7 means pivotally securing said lever in spaced parallel relation".l to said closure, said lever having an angular end adapted, when said closure is moved inwardly and -crosswise of to vertical position to engage the angular end with the web portion of the U-shaped member to supportsaid closure, and a pair of cleats arranged on opposite sides of said opening having convex outer surfaces adapted to be engaged by the extremities of the closing and locking lever to Secure said closure in closed position.
In testimony whereof I aiiiX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
FRANK CLINTON.
