Be it known that I, ALBERT E. HoLAnaY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Naugatuck, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in ClotheslVringer Clamps, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in clothes wringer clamps and more particuarly to the engaging member carried by the clamping screw; the object being to provide a detachable engaging button which can be easily and quickly placed in position upon the clamping screw, or removed therefrom.

Another object of my invention is to pro vide a detachable engaging button which is of substantial horseshoe shape, having an aperturcd boss, one wall of which is slotted and which communicates with a circular opening formed in the bottom of the boss so as to allow the head of the clamping screw to be forced through the opening and be uided into the aperture of the boss when turned at an angle of forty-five degrees so that when the button is arranged in vertical position, it will be held in position upon the clamping screw.

Another object of my invention is to pro vide the button with a fork portion mounted upon the flange of the frame carrying the clamping screw so that the button will be guided and prevented from being turned by the screw when brought into engagement with the tub.

In the drawing-Figure l, is a top plan view of a wringer partly broken away, showing my improved construction of clamping screw for securing the wringer in position upon a tub; Fig.2, is a side elevation of my improved clothes wringer clamp detached and partly in section; and Fig. 3, is an end elevation of the engaging button showing the fork portion thereof in position upon the frame, which is shown in section.

In the drawing 1 indicates a wringer of the ordinary construction, 2 the tub upon which the wringcr is adapted to he clamped, the above description being given so that the operation of my improved construction of clamp can be readily understood.

My improved construction of clamp comprises an angled frame 3 which is substan tially I i-shaped in cross section, and which terminates at one end in an enlarged apertured portion at which is adapted to be mounted upon a pivot pin 5 carried by the wringer so that the clamp can swing. The opposite end of the clamping frame terminates in an enlarged portion 6 whicn is provided with a threaded bore in which is' mounted a clamping screw 7 which is provided with a head 8.

Mounted on the neck of the head 8 of the clamping screw 7 is an engaging button 9 which is of substantial horse. hoe shape and which is provided with a hollow apertured boss 10, the head of the boss being annular-1y reduced as shown at 11 around the aperture to receive the end of the clamping screw, as shown in Fig. 2. The hollow boss 10 of the engaging memher 9 is provided with a slot 12 which registers with a circular opening 13 through which the head 8 of the clamping screw is adapted to be forced when the button is arranged at an angle of forty-five degrees so that by moving the button into vertical position, it will ride on the neck of the head 8 so as to bring the head within the hollow boss with the aperture thereof surrounding the neck of the head so as to securely hold the button in position upon the head. Extending from the button is a neck portion 14- tern'iinating in a bifurcated head 15 which is adapted to embrace the base of tie I i-shaped frame so as to guide the button in its movement toward and away from the tub and to hold the button in substantially vertical position. The neck portion 1 f is cut away as shown, to receive the flange of the tub so that the button can be brought into engagement with tie body thereof in such a manner as to securely clamp the wringer in position thereon.

In placing a button as herein shown and described on the clamping screw and frame. the screw is moved into the position as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2, and the button is placed at an angle of forty-five degrees so that the head of the screw can be forced through the opening 13, the bifurcations of the head embracing the frame of the clamp and by moving the button into vertical position, the neck will be guided into the boss so that when the clamping screw is operated so as to move the button away from the enlargement 6 or toward the tub, the button will be locked in position upon the head of the clamping screw in such a manner that it will be impossible to remove the same without first unscrewing the clamping screw so as to allow the button to be moved into the position as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2. The angle of the frame limits the movement of the head thereon in one direction and the enlargement 4t limits the movement of the head in the opposite direction, so that the button can be only removed by tilting the same toward the enlargement 4: when the screw has been withdrawn.

From the foregoing description, it will be seen that I have provided a clothes wringer clamp with a detachable button engaging member having a hollow boss provided with a central aperture from which extends a slot over the curved portion of said apertured boss and which terminates in a circular opening through which the head of the clamping screw is adapted to be forced when the button is arranged at an angle of forty-five ,degrees so that by moving the button until it obtains an angle of ninety degrees, the button will move into such a position that the neck of the head of the screw will be seated within the central aperture of the boss so as to hold the button engaging member in vertical position to be forced into or thrown out of, contact with the member upon which the wringer is adapted to be clamped.

I claim:

1. In a clothes wringer, a clamp pivotally mounted on the frame thereof comprising an angled frame, the angled portion of said frame being arranged in depending position, a clamping screw mounted in the end of the angled portion having a neck provided with a head, a button engaging member having an apertured boss from which extends a slotcommunicating with an aperture through which the head of the clamp is adapted to be forced for guiding the neck into position within the aperture of said boss, said button engaging member having a bifurcated head workin on the horizontal portion of the frame.

2. In a clothes wringer, a clamp pivotally mounted on the frame thereof comprising a frame having a clamping screw carried thereby and a button engaging member having a head embracing said frame, said button engaging member having a hollow boss provided with apertures communicating with one another by a slot for guiding and holding the button in position upon said head when arranged in vertical position.

3. In a clothes wringer, a clamp pivotally mounted on the frame thereof comprising a horizontally disposed frame having a de pending portion provided with a threaded bore, a clamping screw mounted in said threaded bore provided with a neck having a head, a button engaging member having a boss provided with spaced openings connected by a slot adapted to receive the head of said screw when arranged at an angle of forty-five degrees, said button engaging member having a bifurcated head embracing the horizontal portion of said frame for guiding and preventing the button engaging member from rotating when the neck of said head is guided into the aperture of the boss of said button engaging member by the movement of said button engaging member into vertical position.

In a clothes wringer, the combination with the frame thereof, of a clamping frame pivotally mounted thereon having a clamping screw mounted therein provided with a neck having a head, a substantially horseshoe shaped engaging member detachably mounted upon" the neck of said head, a neck extending from said engaging member having a bifurcated head embracing the frame of said clamp, said clamp having an apertured boss with a slot extending from said boss communicating with an opening through which the head of said clamping screw is adapted to be passed, and when said engaging member is arranged at an angle of forty-five degrees. to enable the engaging member to be guided upon the neck of said head when moved into vertical position.

5. In a clothes wringer, the combination with the frame thereof, of a clamping screw carried thereby, of an engaging. member having a bifurcated head traveling on the frame of said clamp, said engaging member having an enlargement provided with spaced open ings of different diameters connected by a slot, the larger opening of said engaging member being adapted to receive said head when arranged at an angle, the aperture of said engaging member being adapted to receive the neck of said head when said engaging member is moved into vertical position.
