ITEM %TATE@ PATENT UIE IB IQEW RICHARD M. PAGE, 01? DENVER, COLORADO, ASSIG-NOR 0F SEVEN-TENTI-IS TO CHARLES I. HAYS, OF DENVER, COLORADO.
POISON-BOTTLE INDICATOR.
Application filed July 28, 1916.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RICHARD M. PAGE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Denver, in the county of Denver and State of Colorado, have invented new and useful Improvements in Poison-Bottle Indicators, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improved device to be attached to bottle or other receptacle to indicate that the bottle or receptacle contains poison or dangerous drugs, medicines, chemicals, or other materials or substances which should be handled with care, the ob ject of the invention being to provide an improved device of this character which may be readily placed around the neck of a bottle and which is provided with outwardly projecting prongs which serve to scrape or prick the fingers it brought in contact with them and hence serve to prevent the bottle from being handled carelessly.
The invention consists in the features of construction, combination, and arrangement of devices, hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a plan of a poison indicator constructed in accordance] with my invention and in an initial condition, but being applied around the neck of a bottle. Fig. 2 is a sectional. view of the same with the prongs out-turned. Fig. 3 is a detailed elevation of the band and showing the prongs as initially formed and before being outturned. Fig. 4: is an.
elevation of the same in use on the neck of a bottle.
In the embodiment of my invention I proide a band 1 which may be made of cellu loid or of any other suitable material and is of suitable length and width. The band or strip is provided with ll-shaped slits 2 at suitable distances apart and which extend in the same direction. The said slits define two sides of V-shaped prongs 3 Which may be Specification of Letters Patent.

bent outwardly to extend radially from the band when the latter is placed around the neck of a bottle. The prong near one end of the band is passed outwardly through the opening l formed when the prong at the 0pposite end of the band is out-turned, thus connecting the ends of the band together, when the same is placed around the neck of a bottle and to secure the ends of the band together, the said coengaged end prongs being bent reversely with respect to the said openings, and as shown in Figs. 2 and at thus effectually securing the band on the bottle neck.
The band with its outwardly projecting prongs serves to visually indicate and dis tinguish the bottle, and in the event that a person should take hold of the bottle in the dark, the prongs will scratch or prick the fingers and thus also serve to indicate the nature of the contents of the bottle.
In practice, the poison indicating band will be made and stamped out from a strip of tin, celluloid, or other suitable material and cut in suitable lengths.
Having described the invention, what is claimed is:
In combination with a bottle having a neck, a band around the neck and provided with l -shaped slits spaced from the sides thereof and forming correspondingly shaped prongs, said prongs being turned outwardly so that openings are formed in the band by said prongs and slits, the ends of the band being arranged in over-lapping relation and the prong near one end of the band be ing extended through the opening of the over-lapping end and bearing against the prong of said over-lapping end, the last named prongs being reversely bent. and serv ing to secure the ends of the band together.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
RICHARD M. PAGE.
