MEDICINE-DOSE INDICATOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 1, 1907.
Application filed October 11, 1906. Serial No. 338,625.
To all whom tt may concern:
Be it known that I, RALPH L. WARDIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at. Nevada, in the county of Vernon and State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Medicine-Dose Indicator, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to medicine dose indicators, and its object is to provide a simple device of this character which can be readily attached to a bottle or other receptacle containing medicine to be taken or applied and which can be easily adjusted to indicate the time when the doses are to be taken.
Another object is to provide a device of this character which canbe manufactured at very slight cost and which may be used as an advertising medium for druggists and others engaged in the sale of drugs, etcv with which the device may be used.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts which will be hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings is shown the preferred form of the invention.
In said drawings :Figure 1 is an elevation of the device in position upon abottle; Fig.2 is a horizontal section through the center thereof; and Fig. 3 is another horizontal section taken at a point below the center.
Referring to the figures by characters of reference, 1 is a body comprising a disk preferably formed of cardboard and having a concentric circle 2 indicated thereon, the space outside of the circle being adapted to receive suitable advertising matter. The circle is subdivided into twelve parts which are indicated by immerals ranging consecutively from 1 to 12. The space between every two graduations may be further subdivided to indicate fractions of an hour. An eyelet 3 is arranged within the center of the disk and the front flange 4 of this eyelet overlaps the eye 5 of an index 6. The rear flange 7 clamps upon an eye 8 formed at one end of a pin 9 which extends beyond the periphery of the disk.
It is obvious that the index 6 can be readily rotated upon the eyelet so as to point toward any desired graduation on the disk, said graduation indicating the time when a dose of medicine is to be taken. By providing the pin 9, the indicator can be readily attached to the cork of a bottle, the cover of a box, to the lapel of a coat, or attached to any material capable of receiving the pin. By reason of its simplicity of construction, one of these devices can be given away with every bottle of medicine solely as an advertising medium, and will be found of great convenience to nurses and others administering or taking medicine.
In order that the pin may always be kept in the same relation to the disk, the same is preferably pressed into the rear face of the disk so that independent rotation of the pin and disk is practically prevented.
The preferred form of the invention has been set forth in the foregoing description, but I do not limit myself thereto as I am aware that modifications may be made therein-without departing from the spirit or sacrificing the advantages thereof, andI therefore reserve the right to make such changes as fairly fall within the scope of the claims.
What is claimed is A dose indicator comprising a pivot member, an index mounted to turn thereon, a disk-like body mounted at its center upon the pivot member and having graduations thereon, any one of said graduations being designed to be designated by the index, and a pointed supporting de vice having an eye at one end engaged by the pivot member, the point of said supporting device extending beyond the periphery of the body and said .device being partly embedded within one face of the body to hold the supporting device and the body against independent move ment.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I
have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnessesv RALPH L. WARDIN.
