Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented aan. ic, mit.
To all w 7mm it may concern Be it known that i, PAUL I. BAGHMANN, a citizen of the United States, res'idinor at Oak Park, in the county of Cook and Sotate of illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Dish-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to dish holders, and more particularly to a bracket for holding dishes upon a baby chair, and has for its principal object to provide a device of this character which will securely retain the dish upon the chair against accidental displacement and the consequent spilling of its contents.
With this object in view, and others of a similar nature which will appear as the invention is more fully understood, the invention consists in the features of construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation showing my device attached to the tray of a baby chair and holding a dish thereon; Fig. 2 is a top plan view of my dish holder; Fig. 3 is an enlarged fragmentary section showing my locking means; and Fig. 4 is a side elevation of the dish.
Referring to the drawings in detail, 1 represents the tray of a baby chair, provided with the usual vertically disposed flange 2. Arranged about the flange and underlying the tray is a bracket comprising a vertical portion 3 having a relatively long arm 4 connected to the lower end thereof. This arm 4 is disposed beneath the tray and is provided at its free end with a threaded eye 5 vertically disposed therein. Threaded into the eye 5 is a thumb screw 6 which is provided at its upper end with an enlarged portion 7 adapted to engage the under side of the tray. Connected to the upper end of the vertical portion 3 is a short arm 8 lwhich is inclined downwardly to form a curve on the inner surface thereof to accommodate the upper edge of the flange 2. Formed integrally with the short arm 8 is a ring 9 which is horizontally disposed and lies substantially parallel to the long arm 4. This ring is provided with a horizontally arranged recess 10 adjacent its connection between the bracket and the ring. Communicating with the recess 10 is a transversely disposed opening 11. Located within the recess 10 is a latch member 12 which has one end thereof pivotally secured to theinner wall of the recess, the opposite end terminating in a handle which extends through the transverse opening 11. Disposed between the latch. and the rear wall of the recess 10 is a leaf spring 15 which exerts its tension to normally keep the latch projected from the recess. The outer edge of the latch 12 is provided with an arcuate shaped flange 13. Arranged upon the inner wall of the ring diametrically opposite the latch is a laterw ally extending flange 14 which is of arcuate conligurationand which cooperates with the latch flange 13 for purposes hereinafter described. d
It will be seen from the foregoing construction that when it is desired to retain a dish upon the support, in the present instance being a tray for a baby chair, the bracket will be placed upon the tray causing the flange ofthe tray to lie within the vertical portion of the bracket, thereby disposing the horizontal portion beneath the tray. It will thus be seen that by feeding the thumb screw upwardly, the enlarged portion thereof will be brought into tight engagement with the under side of the tray thereby holding the ring securely upon the upper side of the tray. Upon placing the dish 16 formed with a bead adjacent its lower edge within the ring, the latch 12 is drawn inwardly into the recess 10 against the tension of the leaf spring 15 by means of gripping the handle 11 which extends exteriorly of the ring. This causes the flange 13 to be moved rearwardly thereby permitting the dish to be inserted into the ring. After having placed the dish within the ring, the latch is released whereby the leaf spring forces the latch forward and causes the flange to engage the side of the dish above the mentioned bead. This flange coperates with the arcuate flange 14 to prevent any upward movement of the dish and thereby lock the dish securely within the ring.
In Fig. 4 I have shown a preferred form of dish, wherein the lower edge of the dish is provided with a relatively large laterally extending annular flange 17. 1 wish it to be understood that I do not limit myself to the use of a dish of this specific form in connection with my holder, as it is a Well known fact that the majority of dishes are provided with beads adjacent their bottoms.
In'the present instance I have shown my dish holder attached to the tray of a baby chair, but it Will be noted that the bracket is of such aa structure as to permit the device to be attached to any flat support.
It is believed that from the foregoing description the nature and advantages of the invention Will be thoroughly understood Without requiring a more extended explanation and therefore the same has been omitted.
Having thus described my invention, I claim: Y
