No. 121,273. Patented Nov-28,1871.
PATENT QFFICE.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 121,273, dated November 28, 187].
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK BRUNS, of
Cleveland, in the county of Guyahoga and Stateseparable handle, made of non-conducting material, to a flat-iron, by means of which the burnin g of the hand of the operator will be prevented.
Figure 1 represents a side view of holder when on the iron; Fig. 2, end view of the holder when closed, showing the iron plates or guards; Fig. 3, end view of holder when open; Fig. 4, section of the iron; Fig. 5, perspective view of the holder when open.
A is a wooden cylinder cut in halves, connected or hinged together on the upper side by a piece of cloth, leather, or other pliable material. B B are two lugs fastened on the under side of A A; they are used in opening the holder, as they form catches for the fingers. On the inside of A A, or the straight surface of the half-cylinders, are the grooves E E, shaped to conform with D, the piece of wrought-iron cast into the main body of the flat-iron. O O are two pieces of sheet-iron which form the guide in putting the holder onto the iron, which will also prevent the holder from being pushed too far onto the iron handle D. Two or more end pieces, 0 O, or none, may be used, as the case may require it.
I claim as my invention The combination of the cylindrical-shaped hinged, pieces A A and lugs B B with guides G G, and the grooves E E conforming to handle D D, substantially as and for the purpose hereinbefore set forth.
