Description

C. VOLHARDi SOAP TRAY.
APPLICATION FILED MAY 3. I916.
Patten ted Jan.16,1917.
' rra CHARLES VOLHARILOF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
SOAP-TRAY,
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented J 311.16, 191'? Application filed May 3, 1916. Serial No. 95,161."
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES VOLHARD, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco, State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Soap- Trays; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to soap holders, and has for its primary object to provide simple and efficient means for supporting soap at various points in a tube or pipe length in a position for convenient use.
A further object of the invention is to provide a soap tray or holder which is capable of being readily'attached to or detached from a pipe, spigot, or other water duct, which is of extremely simple and inexpensive construction, which is capable of being adjusted to pipes of various sizes, and which will prove thoroughly efiicient in practice.
With these objects in view, together with others which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the novel combination and arrangement of parts, all as will be described more fully hereinafter, illustrated in the drawings and particularly pointed out in the claims.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1, is a side elevation of a soap holder embodying the invention and illustrating the same applied to a pipe, Fig. 2, is a sectional view taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1, Fig. 3, is a view similar to Fig. 2 and illustrating the clamping jaw or arm in open position, and Fig. 4:, is a plan view of the device.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings, 5 indicates a post which is notched transversely adjacent one end as at 6 to provide a pipe engaging surface. This notched portion may be serrated as shown to enable the post to securely grip the pipe or other duct. The upper end of the post may be reduced and bent rearwardly and forwardly, and providing at its extremity a table portion 7 to which a soap dish or tray 8 may be secured by bolts 0r screws 9. It will be observed with reference to the drawings that the table portion 7 is disposed at right angles to the post 5, and when the post 5 is secured in vertical position to a support the table and tray will be horizonv tally disposed.
. Arranged for cooperation with the post 5 1n securing the latter to a pipe is a movable arm 10. This arm is held for hinged movement upon the post 5 and to be normally rigid in engagement therewith by the spring 11. The arm is'of equal length with the post portion 5, and is notched as at 12 upon its inner surface to cooperate with the notched portion 6 of the post in clamplng a pipe between the two members. It is thus seen that the post 5 and arm 10 form clamping jaws which are normally engaged with each other, the said jaws being capable of ready attachment to pipes of various sizes and shapes. The arm 11 projects upwardly beyond its point of connection with the post 5, and is milled or serrated upon its outer surface as at 13 to provide means whereby the finger may be engaged to rock the arm 10 upon its pivot to engage or disengage the device from a pipe. By curving the upper portion of the post 5 in the manner above described it will be seen that the rearwardly extending portion of the arm 10 may be free to swing in a direction to properly manipulate the arm 10. It will be observed that the width of the tray or dish is restricted to permit of the device being applied to the projecting end of a pipe or faucet arranged on a wall.
' A device constructed in accordance with the above description may be readily attached to or detached from a pipe, and
when in use will afford an efiicient means for accommodating soap in a position convenient to the user. The flat coacting faces of the post 5 and member 10 are milled or serrated inwardly from their free or lowermost ends as at 14 so that the device may with facility be applied or clamped over the1 edges of a tub, bucket or other receptac e.
While I have herein shown and described a particular or preferred embodiment of the invention I wish it to be understood that I need not confine myself to all the precise details of construction herein set forth by way of illustration as modification and variation may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention or exceeding the scope of the claims.
What is claimed is 1. In a device of the class described, a
finger grip, a spring for normally holding said arm against said post, said arms and post being provided with pipe engaging portions, substantially as described. 1 In testimony whereof I aflix my signature 'in the presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES VOLHARD.
