CHARLES T. LUCAS, 0F CIMABRON, KANSAS.
APRON.
Application filed August 19, 1916.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, Cinemas T. Lucas, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cimarron, in the county of Gray and State Kansas, ha 've invented certain useful Improvements in Aprons, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to improvements in aprons, one object of the invention being the provision of an apron or chute adapted to be used to prevent waste in loading or unloading grain or anything that has to be transmitted from wagon to bin, or vice versa, the same being so constructed as to be transversely adjustable for varying widths of doors or windows, or wagon bodies, and which is further provided with swinging adjustable legs for supporting one end thereof.
A further object of this invention is the provision of a device of this character which is simple, durable and inexpensive in construction, and thoroughly efficient and practical in use. i
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view of the complete apron. Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view thereof. Fig. 3 is a cross section taken on line 33 of Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawings, the numerals 5 and 6 designate the two sections of the apron, each one of which is preferably made from a single sheet of material and is pro vided with the upstanding side-wall 7 and the downwardly extending lips or flanges 8. These lips or flanges are apertured as at 9 and are adapted to telescope so that the two sections may be adjusted transversely to increase the dimension or transverse width of the apron 0r chute.
In order that the sections may be locked Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 16, 1917..
Serial No. 115,823.
in desired adjustment, the removable bolts or pins 10 are employed. Carried by each section adjacent one end thereof and secured to the underside thereof is a leg 11 which has mounteo therein a pin 13 for supporting the swinging leg 15. This leg has pivotally connected adjacent the free end thereof, an L-shaped member 16, whose pivoting terminals 17 are spaced and fit astride of the lug so that the pin 19 may hold the same in proper relation.
In use, one end of the present apron rests upon the door or window from which the grain is to be transferred, while the opposite end rests upon the wagon box.
In case the wagon box should be too high, the legs are extended and rest upon the edge of the box, the pivoted L-shaped members engaging the same to prevent any relative movement.
As the present device is adapt-ed to be put together lay-bolts, the sections can be collapsed to permit of the device being placed upon the wagon and occupy a small space. The same may be made in varying widths and lengths according to the use thereof and may be made of any material that will accomplish the purpose.
What I claim as new is An apron including two sections, each section being made from a single sheet of material and having one longitudinal wall bent at right angles thereto and the opposite ends bent at right angles to the wall and apertured, said sections when assembled fitting telescopically for transverse adjustment, and fastening devices entering the apertures of the bent ends to hold the sections in adjusted position.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
CHARLES T. LUCAS.
