Description

../.HBfce 570W PIPE @mW/..1
Nm, 121,229. A Patented Nov. 28,187.1.
UNITED STATES` PATENT OFFICE.,
JAMES P. BRAGE, OF SPRIGFIELD, OHIO, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF HIS RIGHT TO EDWARD G. DANFOR'IH, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN STVE-PIPE ELBOWS.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent N o. 121,229, dated November 28, 1871.
To all whom t 'may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES P. BRAOE, of Spring-V field, in the county of Clark and State of Ohio, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in the Manufacture of Stove-Pipe Elbows; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the annexed drawing making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawing represents a circular stove-pipe elbow with my improved rings, serving as means for uniting the sections thereof; and Fig. 2 is a sectional view of my improved rings, showing the flanches and connecting-pin holes.
My invention relates `to the manufacturepof circular elbows for stove-pipes 5 and consists in a novel construction of the connecting-ring, whereby the manufacture of such elbows maybe greatly simplified and cheapened.
A of the drawing represents live pieces or sections of stove-pipe, all of which, except the two end sections, are cut in a triangular form, as shown. By forming these interior'sections upon the angle represented and properly uniting them the five sections form a complete elbow having allthe advantage of a right-angled elbow, without the obstruction which the sharp corner of a right-angled elbow presents to the smoke. My means for colmecting the sections of the elbow consists in the ring marked c on the drawing. This ring is usually of cast-iron, and of the following form: From a central exterior rib, a, extend on each side two thin hanches, b b. These anches are elliptical in form, and extended at the end of their largest diameters in such a manner as to form ears fv c, which are perforated for the passage of the rivets which fasten the pipe. The exterior walls of the anehes b b on the outer curve of the bend form a salient angle of about one hundred and fifty degrees with each other, while on the inner curve, where the rings are nearest each other, the flanches form a refentering angle of the same number of degrees when the bend is made with five sections of pipe. The
'inner wall of the ring is without rib or corner.
It is rounded to suit the curve of the bend.
I claim as my invention- The circular stove-pipe elbow herein described, constructed with sections A and rings c united by means of anohes and rivets, as described, substantially as specilied.
JAMES P. BRACE.
