To (a; whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CLAUDE H. POLK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Anaconda. in the county of Deerlodge and State of Montana, have invented-new and useful Improvementsin Loading Apparatus for Powdered Materials and the like, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in loading devices for powdered material such as calcine and the like.
In carrying out the present invention, it is my purpose to provide a loading device of the class described whereby the powdered material may be discharged into the cars and the dust incident to such discharge conveyed away from the place of loading so as to eliminate the inconveniences heretofore incident to the loading of powdered material. It is also my purpose to provide loading apparatus for calcine, etc., wherein the dust guards will be normally elev'ated so that the cars may be readily moved into position below the hoppersand wherein the controlling valve of the hopper may be opened, the dust guard lowered and the valve controlling the dust flue opened simultaneously by a single operation, thereby enabling the apparatus to be brought into service and rendered inactive quickly and conveniently. With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter set forth in and falling within the-scope of the claims.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a view in side elevation showing two loaders arranged side by side over a trackway and the cars beneath the loaders. Fig. 2 is an end elevation of one of the loaders. Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view through the same. Fig. 4 is a horizontal sectional view therethrough. Fig. 5 is a bottom plan View of one of the loaders. Fig. 6 is a view inside elevation showing a modified form of loader.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, A, A designate loaders arranged side by side above the trackway and spaced apart longitudinally of the trackway. The loaders A, A are identical in construction and each embodies a hopper 1 adapted to contain calcine or other powdered material and having the upper end open to receive such material. The lower end of the hopper 1 is formed with a short discharge spout 2 and surrounding the spout 2 and capable of sliding movement thereon is a ring 3 having the I upper edge flared outwardly to conform to the shape of the lower end of .the hopper. Surrounding the lower portion of the ring 3 and suitably secured thereto is the upper end of a truncated cone-shaped hood 4, while secured to the lower end of the hood 4.- is a dust guard 5 formed centrally with an opening 6 registering with the hood 4 and the spout 2. In the present instance, the dust guard is substantially rectangular in outline to fit over the top of the car and formed on the. edges of the dust guard are depend ing flanges 7 adapted to overlap the sides and ends of the car..
Formed in the guard 5v adjacent to one side thereof is an outlet opening 8 and secured to 'the upper surface of the guard in alinement with the opening 8 is a pipe section 9, while'telescoping over the upper end of the pipe section 9 is the lower end of an outlet pipe 10 and the outlet pipes 10. of the adjacent loaders open into a common outlet Mounted in the outlet pipes 10 is a damper 12 and secured to one end of the shaft of the damper is an arm 13, while connecting the arm 13 with the dust guard 5 is a rod 1 1.
Formed in one side of thehopper 1 at the spout end thereof is an opening 15 and slidable across the outlet end of the hopper is. a
controlling valve 16 movable through the opening 15 and connected with the end (if the valve 16 that projects through the opening 15 is one end of an arm 17.
Formed on the guard 5 at opposite sides of the hood 4 are pairs of cars 18 and the ears upon each side of the hood are spaced apart transversely of the guard, as clearly illustrated in Fig. 1 of the drawings. Pivotally connectedwith the respective pairs of ears are the lower ends of links 19 and the upper ends of the links at each side of the hood are pivotally connected to each other and to one end of an arm 20. The other ends of the arms 20 are fixed to a shaft 21 journaled in horizontally alining bearings 22 carried by the adjacent side of the hopper 1 and affixed to the shaft 21 and projecting outwardly therefrom is an arm 23 having the outer end thereof equipped with a bal ance weight 24;. The hoppers ofthe loaders may be arranged in such manner as to communicate with the calcine furnaces, while the flue 11 may return the dust 'fromthe calcine back to the furnaces.
